Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

AFC Fylde vs Maidstone United
18th April 2026

The penultimate game before the end of the season and Fylde looking to secure third place in the table to advance straight to the play-off semi finals. It could all end in disappointment for Fylde and the home fans were stunned after 14 minutes when Ellis Landolo curled in a free kick over the wall into the top corner. However, Lamptey found Danny Smith on the right of the penalty box, the winger turned quickly and crossed into the box looking for the head of O'Neill but the ball sailed straight into the top corner! Certainly not meant from Danny Smith. Smith was in incredible form and you could always count on him to get to the byline, this time supplying a great cross for O'neill but he headed straight against the crossbar. It was an unlucky afternoon for Fylde, having shots against the post and Danny Smith ran riot but O'Neill could not finish the chances put in front of him. The striker coming into criticism from supporters with many saying the club should cash in now.

It comes down to the home game against Forest Green for Fylde to secure third place and Forest Green would love nothing more than to deny The Coasters that opportunity.

AFC Fylde vs Forest Green Rovers
2nd May 2026

It was the final day of the National League season, a match Fylde must win to gain a bye to the play-off semi-final and a match against a team which seems to have developed into a rivalry despite Forest Green being in mid-table. To add fuel to the fire, long serving goalkeeper Russell Griffiths walked out of Fylde to join Forest Green Rovers stating Fylde did not show enough ambition but surely Fylde are having the last laugh as they are due to compete in the play-offs once again. As Griffiths name was read out before kick-off the jeers sparked both sets of fans and created an electric atmosphere at Mill Farm. Griffiths was first tested on 15 minutes when Bret McGavin hit his free-kick towards the keeper who caught it quite easily. Every goal kick and every ball he tried to claim was ridiculed by the home side but Griffiths kept his head and composure to see Paul Townsend's header glance inches wide of the post to end the first half. Fylde hit Forest Gren quickly after the restart, Josh Ferguson getting on the ball and striding forward, playing it out wide to Danny Smith on the right, Smith danced towards the box and crossed for the head of Townsend meeting it perfectly and firing the Coasters in front! Duncan Ferguson urged his side forward to get the second but Forest Green also came out attacking, Fylde held their line and a nervy end to the half was watched between gaping fingers. Tom Hadler kept his side in front when getting down to save at point blank range to keep The Coasters in front and see them through to grab a well deserved victory. Fylde take third place and will enter the play-offs at the semi-final stage!

DF: It's not the end yet, we've got a week I think before we play again, the play-offs can be won by any of the sides in it. Every side poses a serious threat and we have to be at our best to deal with it.

Ged in Fylde. Stick that in your pipe Griffiths, you chickpea eating Judas.

Brings a tear to my eye. UTFC. Well done to all involved.

When should we be expecting the live playoffs @The Penalty Box Dancer?

Just so we can all clear our hectic lockdown schedules.

Good thinking, yes we could do with at least 24 hours notice as my schedule is quite busy as this evening I'm chocka with

7pm wallow in self pity
8pm stare into the abyss
8.20pm solve world hunger
8.22pm jazzercise
8.45pm dinner with me (I can't cancel that again)
9.30pm wrestle with my self loathing
