Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

That's more like it Coasters.

How did Telford keep the ball out of the net?!?

Should tear the Alfs a new one in the FA Cup. They're a right bunch of scruffy tramps there. We'll have to disinfect the poles at Lady Fylde's Discount Lap and Pole Dancing Lounge after they've been in town. Dirty Molly had red eye for weeks after the last to time they were here.

PS how much for the Sheree fight cassette?

£5 for the VHS

GRINDING OUT RESULTS

Boreham wood result.png

Fylde visited bottom of the league Boreham Wood and probably did not expect the struggling side to take an early lead through Cameron Humphreys who was once on loan at Fylde, the defender beat Harry Wright to the ball from the in swinging corner at the far post and gave Boreham Wood a rare lead. It was never going to be that easy with players like Wright-Phillips possibly one of the best players in the league getting the equaliser, Henderson broke away from the opposition midfield and played in Wright-Phillips who held off the left back to slot in the bottom corner. Henderson got a goal himself when McCann put a nice through ball for the winger who came inside and blasted into the top corner form inside the area. Fylde took the lead in the first half and managed to see it out. The second half started brightly for Boreham Wood, striker Anthony Dudley broke free of the Fylde back line but Kyle MacDonald tracked back and put in a good tackle to knock the ball out of play, referee Daniel Cook reacted to the Boreham Wood appeal and pointed to the spot to the disbelief of the Fylde players. A ruckus broke out between both sides and tensions were flaring, MacDonald received a yellow card and up stepped Dudley to take the penalty. Keeper Harry Wright guessed the right way and made a maginificent save to deny Dudley, Duncan Ferguson was then reprimanded by the fourth official for "over celebrating". Boreham Wood kept coming forward but a solid defensive display kept the score line at 2-1. Fylde scraped through in the end but they always knew it was going to be tough.

F.A. CUP FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND

ALFRETON TOWN RESULT.webp

If you were expecting a typical cup tie at Mill Farm you would be sadly mistaken, with very little action throughout the first half, both sides trudged back in at 0-0 with neither side looking likely to have a goal in them. Ferguson made changes to the starting line-up this week with De'Marlio Sterling coming in on the left and Danny Smith on the right, Jim Kellerman played behind the striker and Mick Wisdom got a start in the centre of the park. The only goal of the game came 10 minutes after the restart, Sterling crossing for O'Neill but the ball was too high for him to reach, Danny Smith brought it down on the chest and volleyed it into the back of the net, a wonderful goal for the winger. The game briefly got exciting shortly after when Alfreton went more attacking and broke forward but to little effect. Harry Wright making a few good saves to earn himself a clean sheet and see Fylde through to the first round of the F.A. Cup. A gritty result but a win nonetheless.

F.A. CUP FIRST ROUND DRAW

first round draw.webp

Fylde will host League Two side Peterborough United in the First Round of the cup. Peterborough are currently seventh in League Two with the side in inconsistent form. Michael Appleton has been in charge at the club for 12 months.

DF: Happy with the draw, we are at home and have that advantage. It's going to be tough and we have to be at our best. You got to play the better sides at some point and this is one we expect will test us.

D'Margio Wright-Phillips has suffered a hernia in training and has been ruled out of action for 4-5 weeks. It seems Danny Smith will get a run in the first team due to his absence.

Fylde fans will be devastated after the winger has been in excellent form so far this season and has been instrumental with five goals and seven assists in 14 appearances.

TWO POINTS DROPPED

wrexham result.webp

Danny Smith came into the fold for the injured D'Margio Wright-Phillips and the captain Ryan Croasdale was back in central midfield. Croasdale found himself further up the pitch and played the ball through for Ginnelly to fire low into the net to give Fylde the lead. Euan Henderson was playing with flair down the left flank and put a great cross in to Danny Smith who hit the volley inches over the cross bar. Two minutes after the restart, Ginnelly got an assist playing the ball to feet to Henderson who had great close control to take it away from the defender and beat the keeper with a fierce effort. Fylde in full control and looking good for their lead. De'Marlio Sterling replaced Henderson on the left wing but this could have been a change too soon as Wrexham got their foot back in the game, Russell unleashing a wonderful top corner effort after the clearance from the corner, Fylde failing to charge down the oncoming shot and Wright beaten into the top corner. Fylde now trying to hold their lead, the veteran Centre-Back Giuseppe Bellusci replacing Kyle MacDonald to see the game out but the equaliser came in the first minute of stoppage time, a goal out of nowhere, Russell played in Matthews who was on the outside of the box, had time to turn and shoot and the ball rolled past Wright. Fylde players looked on in disbelief, the goal coming through a lack of pressing from Fylde and a 2-0 lead thrown away.

Duncan, you brought off Henderson but this obviously changed the game and allowed Wrexham back in it, the fans want to know why?

DF: It's simple, we play York in three days and I want him fully fit for that. I had full faith in Sterling to finish the game and to blame the change on the outcome is ridiculous, the lads out there still had their responsibilities and let the team down. We shouldn't have lost in the manner we did, we need to react quicker but fair play to Wrexham they scored two great goals and played to the whistle.

york result.webp

Fylde put in a good performance in front of their home crowd against an in form York City side. Chima Okoroji put in a man of the match performance and was excellent in defence and attack down the left. Ferguson made changes for the second half when Tyrone O'Neill came off the bench for Martin Withers. Withers not having the best of games and O'Neill starting the game on the bench would have been a wake up call for the Fylde front man. Bad news came 10 minutes into the second half when Danny Smith pulled up clutching his thigh, the player signalled to come off and was replaced by Sterling. Henderson switched to the right side and put in a great cross for O'Neill who jinxed past the defender and scored on his left foot. Ferguson went defensive taking off Ginnelly from attacking midfield and bringing on Bret McGavin to play as an anchor man. Al three points belonged to Fylde tonight who done enough to earn and hold their lead.
