Following Everton in Europe

My experiences were the Romanian flight that got cancelled (lucky me!) and the Fiorentina game - where we got wet through and treated like animals - not great Europa league away days for me!

Fiorentina was grim mate - start to finish. At least in Liege we had a fighting chance (literally). remember that turbulent flight home in that thunderstorm from fiorentina too!

Mick I have seen your photo (alledgedly you) so I knwo you werent even born in 85 so please stop this utter drivel you atention seeking loser. xx

Nuremburg was great experience, only away ive ever done in Europe myself. The hotel and flight prices rocket, there not soft these companys, take the same flights a week later when there is no footy and there a few hundred cheaper

Did them all apart from Kharkiv & the 2 Lisbon games due to work. Never came close to spending anywhere near the cost of the official trips, even with multiple nights at the destination.

Away games for Everton & England can't be bettered.

...was fortunate enough to go to Rotterdam in a mini-bus with pals even though my daughter had been born the weekend before. Took a detour on the way back and ended up going straight to Wembley for the Man Utd final. Didn't see the baby for a week and her Mum reminds her of the story, but she's a Dr now but more importantly a massive Blue so it worked out well. Took son Eggs to Lisbon for the Benfica game via official travel. Can't remember how much it cost but a memorable Dad and lad day never to be forgotten despite the result. Some things are just worth it.

I wouldn't even consider going with the club, it's a total rip-off. We did a 4 day trip to kharkiv for about half what they were charging for a day trip. Our route was Liverpool to Riga, Riga to Kiev then the overnight train to Kharkiv. As long as your straight on to the budget airlines sites when the draw is made then cheap flights are usually easy to find. We got to Fiorentina for less than £100 aswell. Budget flights from Leeds to Milan for about £60 then £40 on the train to Florence, Everton were charging about £300 for a day trip.

I followed Everton in Europe in 1984/85, the year we got to Rotterdam since I've never been away to a European game, not even the 2002 friendly against Anderlecht, which from what my mates told me was a delightful day out. I missed the European games under Moyes due to financial reasons so my question is for the lads that had followed Everton to places like Brann and Nuremberg, Villareal, Fiorentina, etc, how much was it costing you for flights or coach, transport, tickets, (inc. everything) for one game? Years ago we travelled by car but just wondering if we are to get into Europe in the next few years, how much will it cost, on average to get over there and watch the Everton play?

Thanks, Peter.

Hahaha you f*cking liar. You weren't even born.

I love jarg back stories. You were sniffed right away lid.

Some of the trips we done were buttons really. Paid 40 quid for flights and a fiver a night for a hotel in Prague for the olomouc game. Few quid for trains and taxi's and that and then it was just brasses and ale money.

Be interested to know how many spending this sort of dough have wives. kids and mortgages even if I was single without any kids and living at me ma's I don't think I could afford the money some are talking about - different world.

You can do it a lot cheaper than what you think. For instance flights to fiorentina were much cheaper through Dublin.
Athens we went from Gatwick and came back through Paris. Saved £150 that way.

Lisbon we flew to Geneva first.

You'd be surprised how cheap it can be.

I went to Nuremberg when I was 16. Fly in, watch the game, fly out and back into school the next day. Bearing in mind me and my mate didn't drink at that age it was cheap all things considered. I think the flights might've been €90, can't remember ticket prices. But we really didn't get the benefits of the proper European journey...was brilliant soaking up the atmosphere in the day though. It was the first 'proper Everton' experience I had, when just the sheer size & scale of the club left me speechless. Nigh on 10,000 of us descended on the city, we were everywhere, and even though I didn't know any of them I felt like I was with a thousand mates, we'd be forever bumping into fellow blues and just having a chat.

It was ace, looking back.

Went to Nuremberg by coach.

Cost me £150, including £7 (SEVEN POUND!) for a match ticket. Mind you by coach meant, leaving 24 hours before the game, and arriving back in Liverpool 24 hours after the match. So it was a 3 day off work job. Great if you don't mind coaches and can take the time off to save the money.

Alternatively, I flew to Lisbon from John Lennon Airport for the Benfica game, day of the game, and got back in the early hours of the following day. Much better, though it set me back around £300.
