Following Everton in Europe

I followed Everton in Europe in 1984/85, the year we got to Rotterdam since I've never been away to a European game, not even the 2002 friendly against Anderlecht, which from what my mates told me was a delightful day out. I missed the European games under Moyes due to financial reasons so my question is for the lads that had followed Everton to places like Brann and Nuremberg, Villareal, Fiorentina, etc, how much was it costing you for flights or coach, transport, tickets, (inc. everything) for one game? Years ago we travelled by car but just wondering if we are to get into Europe in the next few years, how much will it cost, on average to get over there and watch the Everton play?

Thanks, Peter.

The trips with the club are about £350, if you travel independently then you'd be looking at about the same by the time you get your flights, transfers, tickets, hotel etc but probably have infinitely more fun.

Peter, i went to every game away bar Larissa, BATE and AEK. Khakhiv was the most memorable, Villareal was surreal the amount of Blues there. Nuremburg was brilliant atmosphere before and after the game. Support at Benfica was amazing. Liege and fiorentina were memorable for all the wrong reasons - overall easily spent over £10,000 following the Blues in Europe. Worth every single penny for the memories. I mean when would you ever in your wildest dreams ever go to Olomouc ever?

£350 every two weeks or so is an awful lot for the average fan. If you was a millionaire or had a bit of money it's not a problem but most of the lads who follow Everton are working class. How they can afford that which is astronomical

I know people who've travelled via coach on the ferry, wonder if that would be any cheaper?

Mate, it will be a long time before we ever get close again so i shouldn't worry. Start putting away a tenner a month and you'll be ready by the next time we get there?

Exactly, your memories must be awesome!

The club should show loyalty to fans like yourself who went to every game by reducing your season ticket the season after and giving you free away travel or something.

Makes me wonder how some lads get the time off from work.

They didn't always! One of the lads on our trip to Alkmaar blagged a sickie and the day off school. He was a teacher. We scored in first few seconds, he goes nuts (it was frickin cold, had to do something to warm ourselves up), but tv cameras picked it up ... and therefore so did all the kids in his class. Cue loads of text messages, "sir was that you on telly just then?"

May I ask why the kids in his class had his phone number?

My experiences were the Romanian flight that got cancelled (lucky me!) and the Fiorentina game - where we got wet through and treated like animals - not great Europa league away days for me!
