It is generally easier for "smaller" teams to win cup competitions than it is for them to do well in league competitions as the differences in squad depth are more noticeable over a long season than one off matches. So whilst I think it difficult to win the Europa it is probably slighlty easier than for us to get into the top 4 especially since Man Utd have very few games up until Christmas. Winning the Europa would not only get us much needed silverware but we would qualify straight into the group phase but we'd need 3rd place in the league to do the same.

Every league position was about 1.2m last year which is important but any drop in league form due to progress in the Europa would be offset by gate receipts and progress payments for each round of the Europa - every group match win gains the club 200k Euro for example. Our profile will likely be raised across Europe (who generally take the competition seriously) making sponsorhip and recruitment easier.

League cup for example if we took serious we would have a good chance due to the other teams never taking it serious.

The europa league on the other hand is much tougher, I love us mate but I'm not the blue tinted glasses type, knowing our luck we would draw a Roma/man city or sevilla who would most likely beat us, yes we would have a chance but we won't be the strongest side once the CL teams drop into the competition.
