I thought jags was back to his best against the rs on Saturday. He struggled a bit on Thursday but the Russians looked very lively and were playing 3 up at times. I think our lack of quality in midfield with leon and atsu stopped us getting out and the pressure kept building. I am interested if krasnador play this pressing game and 3 up at our place. Against the better sides in Europe they could get blitzed on the break. Ari looked useful.

Much of this season might be about grinding out wins but we seem to be headed on the right track. After the 1st couple weeks it was apparent that the D needed sorted out big time and it looks like we are accomplishing that. As long as Man United stays medicore 65pts might give us a real shot at 4th. We beat Lille and we can rest a ton of players for the Christmas matches and the match this weekend will go a long way to determine where we will finish in the league. Its not going to be our record against Chelsea-Man City or Arsenal that gets us into the C-league, it will be how we stack up against the 4-8th place teams.
I agree with people on here who say we were not ready for the season that's a defo. Was it bad preparation or trying to pace our players for a long season ?????

Agree, but that is not going to get us far , i promise you,and Martinez knows that,i dont want to single out that mistake in particular .his behaviour through entire match was not on standards Roberto or anyone who would love Everton progress and growth to continue.

Jags? He wasn't bad at all last night. Actually just a typical performance from him - reasonably solid. Had a good game in the derby as well. He's the club captain and a big presence in and around the side. Him and Stones is the way forward next year.

Just got back from Russia now. Boss few days really and thought it was a decent result. Btw, Samuel Eto'o is easily the nicest person I've met connected to Everton, spoke to him for about 10-15 minutes in the hotel the team were staying at and he seemed more interested in my life than I was in his, no matter how many questions I was trying to ask! Real top man, took time to speak to everyone, as did Martinez, Baines and Barry. Whole squad were very friendly out of those I spoke to. Got a great bunch of lads there.

I think a few of us had got E'to all wrong.

Just like my spelling of his name.

I did. Not afraid to say so. When he signed, my thoughts went back to the likes of Gazza & Ginola if I am honest.

Had no doubt he was still a good player, just a bit worried about what his attitude might be like, and if he would be a bit of a big-time charlie.

100% wrong. Totally fallen for him.

Same here mate. Also didn't realise how much depth he has to his play.

Very supportive to Mirallas when his hamstring went - sprinted straight to him, getting there even before the medical staff.

He seems to be relishing the mentor role especially to Lukaku and Mirallas.

That can only be a good thing cant it? It was his huddle after he scored that impressed me. Just sound, calm, advice from the most experienced player on the pitch. No "look at me", a real team man.

Seems to have remarkably little ego considering all that he has achieved in the game.

Admit I fell head over heels for him when I saw how he treated this young fan in Brazil

Yeah, there is a post a few pages back from a blue who met him at the team hotel in Russia. Worth trawling back if you missed it. He spent 15 minutes nattering, and was more interested in asking the supporter about stuff than talking about himself.

To be honest with you, I think a full strength Everton side would blitz them on the break as well.

Barkley and Mirallas leading the charge out of defence with Rom and Seamus joining them could catch them cold.

Speaking about being caught in the cold, I'm glad we played there in the week September ended. No idea who has to go there in the depths of a Russian winter.
