Fernandes

I say, give him a chance. Pienaar took some time to settle in and has been outstanding for us in the last few months. Likewise with Yakubu and Jagielka.

The thing about that is though, Pienaar had never played in England before and was new to the style, whereas Fernandes has played half a season with us before and games for Portsmouth, so he knows what it's about. I'm not really sure what the problem is. Perhaps it's mental, he feels bad or something or like he's not really settled anywhere in the last two years.

I`m not sure the bother hes` having with regards wages at Valencias end are helping either. But imo midfielders especially centre mids need to push the game and not let the game carry him along, you cant afford a ten minute spell here and there.
That said match fitness is different to just being fit we all know that, so hopefully this will improve. And as already posted his effectiveness may be dictated by where hes told to play. But at the moment he does not look worth 11/12mil euros.

As chico mentioned elsewhere, he definitely played one (Scotland) and probably two (final against Sweden) U21 matches during the international break, plus he's got the investigation from club and police sparking into life again this week, so I'd give him a break here (even though I'm not particularly a fan), just as I would Tim Cahill for similar reasons.

maybe the problem with him not being involved enough by sitting too deep could be resolved if he was played out wide. Pienaar should be back soon so that will help but maybe:

Fernandez-Pienaar-Carsley-Arteta

Pienaar would do well in the Osman role, and im shure hes played there before. i remember last season when we played Portsmouth at Goodison Fernandez was played on the right and had a blinder, think this would work?

So had Jagielka and he took time to settle, as did Yakubu. I'm not saying he'll be the messiah but lets give him a fair chance. We certainly need a player of his type in midfield.

If he is still playing like this at the end of the season then yeah he wont be worth the money.

But the thing with Manny is he has that one little bit of world class skill in him that can win you the game at any given moment, and who else do we have who can do that? Its why we keep patience with Arteta and Yakubu when they have crappy matches, we know how important they are.

We have the workers who will run around all day and chase things, but to go to the next level we need match winners in the big matches, and i think Manny can be that guy.

Well i certainly hope he is anyway.

I think we all agree that he was [Poor language removed] yesterday - but after that performance, the question now is "when do we give him another chance?" - if he can't show himself and his skills against Reading, what chance will he have against better opposition?

Ah well, at first I thought he was crap (watched him against Chelsea in CC) then have been warming to him, but am back to thinking he's crap after yesterday.

Fernandes is a simple case - he was not kept on at Benfica, Portsmouth, Valencia. Obviously they saw some problems that were/are greater than the positives.
To all those saying that Pienaar took time to settle - no he didn't, he was just given limited opportunities in the beginning (didn't play vs Reds, 15 mins vs Manure etc etc).
The difference between Pienaar and Fernandes is a simple thing...attitude and mentality.

The one has it and IMO the other doesn't.

Time will prove me right.

Yeh he has got to change his attitude.

Didnt like it when he moaned yesterday.

Im one of his biggest fans and i watch him from my seat, all eyes on the fit bitch, but his attitude was poor and he [Poor language removed] out of tackles.
