Marouane Fellaini could hand Everton a huge fitness boost by returning to action two weeks earlier than expected, David Moyes has revealed.

The giant Belgian has not featured for the Blues since injurying a hamstring while on international duty last month and was told he faced six weeks on the sidelines.

But the 22-year-old is already ahead of schedule and Moyes admitted there is a possibility he could now be fit in time for next weekend's visit of Arsenal.

“The situation has improved," the manager said. "He’s training well and will have an outside chance of being fit for next Sunday."

Moyes heaped praise on the midfielder, whose last Everton outing was the 2-0 win at Birmingham, claiming his own hard work is behind his rapid return to fitness.

He added: "I’ve said it before but the lad is probably the hardest working player when he’s injured, and probably the most dedicated to getting back.

“The medical staff will say he’s a pleasure to work with, he wants to put his time in and get back quickly. He was in Belgium doing a solid week’s work and he really puts himself out.”
