I think McCarthy might do pretty well for us but I'd like us to sign a ball winner/athlete as well. If he can keep the ball but do so quickly he will improve us. I was impressed with some of the stats flagged up in the Executioners Bongs recent post on him, particularly considering they were for a relegated side.

A lot of the negativity on here is cos he isn't a name in my opinion. He may be similar in that respect to someone like Seamus Coleman who for me is now one of the best right backs in the league and if he was English may well be knocking on the door of the national squad. I'd say he is worth about 8 million and with another season like last maybe 12. If right now any team other than the promoted sides were linked with him for 8 million I reckon there'd be uproar from their fans. He doesn't play for a particularly fashionable club, he doesn't play for a fashionable nation (like England, Belgium, Spain etc) and he hasn't had the match of the day treatment. Therefore to your average fan of another club he is a no one, they probably already rate Barkley more highly in fact. You can say all of the above about McCarthy.

No if, buts or maybes, Fellaini in the DM position is a better player than McCarthy and I think McCarthys price tag of £15 is a bit too steep especially from a relegated side.

I'd probably pay £15 for McCarthy to be honest.

McCarthy is going to be Martinez's Joe Allen.

It'd be a lazy signing imo, there's better quality & value out there, than an over priced, over rated, fairly bog standard CM player like McCarthy.

Not so, I don't want us to buy McCarthy as a replacement for Fellaini, as I've made a judgement on their respective ability levels with my own eyes mate.

I think the lad is a tidy player, but far from outstanding & certainly not worth the kind of fees being talked about. As a squad player at a sensible fee I'd not object, but as a replacement for a player of the ability of Fellaini? Not a chance, we'd be vastly weaker in that scenario.

Not all exact replica's but their fees represent the market - my point was about the kind of fee being talked about for McCarthy i.e. circa £15m

Navas - £14.9m
Paulinho - £17m
Giaccherini £6.5m
Medel £11m
Capoue £9m
Chadli £7m

£15 for McCarthy was too much.

That's like 75 Freddo's. I want a refund.
