Feeling better ?

While Saturday sucked, it was one match. I remember the doom and gloom after the 7-1 loss a few years back against Arsenal.

I've learned with Everton to not get too high and not get too low.

A few Premier League wins under our belt and things will look much better.

A few signings and things will look much better.

Yak, Jags, and Arteta back and things will look much better.

And...in my opinion...Lescott contrite, back in the side, and fully focused on Everton, and things will look much better

wont feel completely better again until we redeem ourselves in the premiership.

burnley, wigan, wolves, and stoke aren't exactly the teams to you redeem yourself against (although granted, we probably wont take 12 points away from from that run).

november will be the month for me. i would hope by then we'll have regained our composure. we'll have had time to get lescott the **** out of here, and snag some new players as well.

west ham away. united away. liverpool at goodison.

lets ******* do this everton.

League champions nailed on!

I still think we need to find a balance in the midfeild, while the defence will come up against sterner tests in the PL - lets see how the Lescott things plays out, cant wait for the window to shut.

Would be happy with points on the board this weekend, Pienaar and Rodders struggleing - may leave us with a lack of options. Hopefully Burnley will be wrecked after Weds - they put in a mega shift.

I think it's fair too say our emotions have taken a battering over the past few months, and little snippets of good news tend to noticeably lift them.
There's nothing like a 4-0 victory in Europe to keep the fans spirits up. Had it gone the other way, we would probably all be totally devastated by now; such is the fairground ride we experience as Everton fans. Not many rivals can hold their hands up and say they are more passionate about their team. We're as loyal as an old dog and as bruised and battered as a losing boxer, but I wouldn't swap it for the world.

I like this post Bill. Even my girlfriend looked good today (y)

for a moment...!

i think part of the fickleness is that after saturday i pretty much expelled all the gloom potential i had to the point where i ran out of the energy needed to be negative... it happened to coincide with a great everton win and bam, the glory days are back!

we need to snot burnley, i know goal difference rarely decides a season but we need to get into the positives ASAP just in case, hopefully 4 games from now we'll be there.

also, i think the beginning of the season, if ever, is the time for fickleness. beyond just hte fact that we won by a large scoreline, the pienaar baines connection from last season seems to be returning to its former glory, and youngster are signalling their intentions to play regularly for the first team, and our players are showing a lot more discipline.

Sigma are not the best team in the world, but similar to arsenal they didn't allow us a whole lot of time on the ball. that forced players like hibbert and neville to make quick passes, and they looked oddly comfortable doing it. while a solid side would have punished us during those few lapses, we're showing signs of the discipline that made us such a fright for attacking players last season.

really the issue for us this season is going to be consistency. our best 11 can give any team in the league a game (even without arteta yakubu and jagielka to be honest, with them we'll be even better), its just a matter of whether or not we actually do it. Losing to arsenal is not a big deal at all, what would be a much bigger deal is drawing at burnley, we need to come up with 3 points against every single weaker side, to make up for the draws and losses we're bound to suffer at the hands of stronger teams. lets face it, utd can afford to drop points to burnley, we can't.

so while i'm ever so confident following yesterdays win, we still have 0 points in the league and are dead last in the table (i usually don't even look at the table till 10 games in but we can't ignore that), it will take a season for the team to prove themselves, but i really think they'll do it.

There's a lot of talk about team spirit whenever anyone mentions Everton in a positive light. However, 3 consecutive top 6 finishes in possibly the toughest league in the world are not achieved with spirit alone. Now I'm not saying we are a top 4 side by any stretch. Nor am I implying we don't need to strengthen in quality and depth, but we have a lot of talented footballers in our team. I'm confident we can finish high up the table again. COYB!

I agree i think a lot of our players are more talented than they're given credit for, but i don't think you can count out the synergy factor. hibbert wouldn't play for many premier league sides, but despite his limitations he does reasonably well for us. Osman isn't the best player but for a stretch against Sigma he was our only real goal threat, and i think thats down to the fact that he feels comfortable with the club.

so while i agree that we have great talented footballers, i think the whole is much much greater than the sum of the parts.
