Nadal becomes the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open.

Didn't they use to play it on grass? I'll put that another way, Didn't the courts used to be grass?

Maybe back in the day, but its all rebound ace since they built Melbourne Park.

Top match eh? No tennis fans here?

Every time they play each other it's a classic. You can see a breakdown of all of their matches here

They've also had a couple of five set classics in Masters Series events. At the rate they're going, both men could feasibly lay claim to being the best of all time, they're that good.

On a related note, yet another damp squid of a final in the womens draw. How they deserve equal prize money is beyond me.

Could Nadal be considered better than Sampras in his prime?

Im glad Federer didnt win, he annoys me. That match between Nadal and the other spanish guy was a classic if there ever was one, longest match in open history.

Hard to say really. Pete's main weapon was his serve and he had arguably the best in mens tennis history. No one at the moment really comes close. Nadal obviously has very good returns but so did Agassi and Sampras coped well with him.

So I'll plump for Sampras, besides which I like my serve volley'ers so Sampras and Federer will always come before Nadal and Agassi for me (y)

Federer's not really a serve and volleyer. He has it in his locker but he plays most of his stuff from the baseline just like everyone else these days.

To me the game has lost it's luster after it prostituted itself with these unbelievable racquets that compensate to much. I miss the days of Connors, McEnroe, Nastase, Vilas, Borg, Laver, Rosewall, Newcombe, Orantes and a sly grin on Mark Cox. Real players of the game.
