Spot on. We will get a lot more out of young players if we allow them time to develop instead of writing them off at the first sign of mistakes.

If he doesn't come good then sound, he will be moved on. But we are being very harsh indeed on Robles for the time being.
It's his turn mate, he should count himself lucky that it's taken so long to get around to him.

For me you only rotate 3 - 4, 5 at a push players game to game (regardless of competition), don't like this 1st XI 2nd XI malarky. So to keep players fresh but still strong 1st XI i'd go:

Howard
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
Besic Barry
Mirallas Osman Atsu
Lukaku

Osman?!?!?!?!?! Well Europa is slower than premier league and he'd have pace around him in that line up, McCarthy's looked off the pace so barry and Osman hopefully can be a calming influence on Besic on his first start, plus we need to see Atsu sooner rather than later. With the above line up you can take lukaku off for Eto'o if were comfortable 2nd half, and bring in Naismith, Distain, McGeady, maybe Gibson (if he's fit) and start Eto'o against palace at the weekend.

Do you think he should play in an important European game over Howard?

I'm all for him getting games, but not in such an important fixture

Surely that's understandable?

We're not discussing that

We're discussing whether him or Tim Howard should start

I seem to recall Shane Duffy never doing anything wrong either, but that didn't seem as good an argument to you

Strange how that argument is fine when it's a player you like but not when it's one you don't. Very strange indeed
I'm aware but the lad hasn't made any mistakes and you're labelling him not good enough, so that to me sounds like ''He's not Tim Howard good, therefore he's crap''.

Shane Duffy was bag average, and we have several very good centre backs compared to Shane Duffy.

If we had 3/4 more goalkeepers as good as Howard of course I wouldn't want Robles to play.

I think it may well be :
Howard

Coleman
Jagielka
Distin
Baines

Gibson
McCarthy

Atsu
Naismith
Mirallas

Lukaku
I think we could see Garbutt,Besic or Browning getting some time on the pitch.

How can any player, nevermind a goalkeeper who never gets a game show his true ability based on getting to play 1 game here, 1 game there?

A sub keeper generally gets what? a few cups games a season?. Never gets any gametime and it's not asif he gets u21 games either to keep up his playing every week.

A run of games where he HAS to play is what he needs, and as howard gets older, more oppurtunities willl arrive.
