When we had to be boss, we were boss. When we could afford to take the foot off, we took the foot off. Pretty simple, but not something a rubbish team can do.

Quality performance is a big exaggeration.

Let's get it straight. I'm sat here with a massive smile on my face beating a very decent team 4-1. But I don't buy the argument that we can't critique that performance.

Was I watching a different game? For most of the first half we could barely string a pass together and basic moves were falling apart. Wolfsburg pressed us high (shock horror, decent European teams do that) but we looked utterly clueless. Lukaku was laughably bad and our midfield barely imposed themselves at all.

It was only after the 2nd goal and, inevitably, the early 3rd goal in the 2nd half, that Wolfsburg heads naturally dropped and we understandably didn't look bothered about getting more. But we really were not value whatsoever for a 3-0 lead, and I would say anyone who thinks we were is bordering on insane.

Why am I being harsh? Because I think we are genuinely in with a chance of winning this trophy or at least getting far. We won well tonight against a team desperately lacking in quality up front, but even then, they found massive spaces in dangerous areas time and time again.

Delighted with the result. The performance left a lot to be desired. And yes, I find it staggering I'm saying that after a 4-1 win but it's true. We played better against Chelsea. Strange sport, this football.

If by 'allowed' you mean they forced us into giving the ball away regularly and starving us of any real meaningful possession, then sure. They were good off the ball and like most teams this season sat in their own half letting us piss around doing nothing in our own half.

We didn't get out of second gear, but at the same time Wolfsburg could have had 4/5 themselves. We took our chances, thankfully.

I think it speaks volumes that the on-form HOward broke the record for saves in one match in a Europa League game too.

Wolfsburg had 27 shots. 27.

Do you think they'd have had 27 shots if we were trying our hardest to keep the ball though? We took our foot off the gas at 3-0 which seemed clearly tactical and rightly so, we have a game on Sunday, no point exerting ourselves when the game is already won.

It wasn't a quality performance mate, I'd agree with that. What we havn't quite got used to yet is that we have quality throughout the side though and often they only need to turn it on a few times to make the difference.

Based on stats, Wolfsburg dominated the game, but stats only tell you so much, we put the ball in the net four times, they only managed it once, and that's because we have better players than they do, so, we didn't dominate, but class came through.

Back from the game & after watching it again on the Tivo.

4-1 flatters us a wee bit, but a great result nonetheless.

If Eto'o had had Lukaku's chances.....Eto'o was pure class & great pass for Kev's goal. It was great to see Gibbo back.

& Stevie Naismith - his post match comments on ITV4 were well boss - he's a star man.

Can't argue with 4-1 against 5th in the Bundesliga.

Some great footballing goals again on show for us this season. We do know where the net is. It's exciting to watch.

Puts us in a strong early position in the group. As has been said previously, a win in Krasnodar would mean we'd have a foot in the last 32. It'll be a bonus if we can get through this group with a game or two to spare.

A win on Sunday and the season's really up and running.

Well done to John Stones and Phil Jagielka again tonight. They looked really solid and improved again on the weekend's showing. That'll be great for their confidence. I believe there's a great partnership there. Mirallas, Howard, Barry and McCarthy all deserve mentions as well tonight. Especially Mirallas. I think we'll finally see the best of him this year. Fancy him for POTY if he keeps this up.

The team's come into form at a good time. The exciting year we were looking forward to is just getting started.

don't understand the volumes of negativity here - you do realise these are the top seeds in the group and we're from pot 3 right?

yes, they had 27 shots blah blah blah, we all know we can play better, but how many times have we battered teams over the last few years and only succeeded in 1-1 draws against a norwich.

we're now starting to be clinical in our attack and all before our main goalscorer has even started firing.

out of all those shots vfl had, how many were actually before the game was dead and buried? they caused us little to no problem before 3-0. i'm all for level arguments, but not every team is going to have 27 shots against us, but we will score 4 goals more often than conceding 27 shots.

look to the positives
