Yes it good that kids go the match but hand clappers? What's next? Foam fingers? Signs in the crowd saying "you suck" and "we love Everton" it's gonna get a bit far fetched.

You know what got me hooked? Watching the team play football, listening to the crowd roar and winning games. None of this rubbish.

If Goodison had it their way the ground would be just kids. I really don't understand, I'm not a maternal person and I don't really have a connection with children. I had a messed up teenage life and early adult life so it's probably something to do with that why I've cut off all my human emotion. Who knows? But seriously, lets not turn this into WWF or teams will be coming here and beating us before they got on the pitch.

I bet you don't believe in Father Christmas either.

It'll be nursery rhymes before kick off and runnin out to Humpty Dumpty. Gotta keep the kids happy!

As opposed to a cautionary folk song about a sailor, adapted for TV? Would be slated as Soccer AM nonsense if we did that today, probably.

Tradition's got to start somewhere. Some of it will stick, some of it won't. Agree that things can be taken too far and detract from the football, but if we never did anything new there'd never have been a Toffee Lady either.

This is effective modern marketing, nothing wrong with it.

Draw the line at playing songs when a goal goes in etc. though obviously.

at the Betis game I think

No it didn't. The Fanzone started in the middle of last season.

What we have at Everton is a good effort, but is like a very poor man's version of the Fan Park they have outside the ground at Man City. Granted they have a brand new stadium (well, 10 years old, so not that new, but all the developments are new), tons of land in the surrounding area and unlimited money to develop it, but they have a huge permanent picnic area with benches, bars and pop up cafes selling different food, a massive permanent stage, a huge jumbotron screen, live bands and all sorts of pre-match entertainment. All positioned right outside the turnstyles, on a large plaza.

I realise to some people that this is completely alien, 'whopperish', 'not cool' and 'not Everton', but it IS '2013', not 1983. It's the reason why other clubs are making increasing amounts of money through providing services like this for the fans pre-match. Yeah, there will always be a section of fans for whom matchday will always consist of the boozer until 10 minutes before kick off, but if you have little kids, that's generally not an option.

Lots of clubs are doing stuff like this now, there was an article on what Cardiff had available pre-match for EFC fans on Saturday at the game: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ive-bands-standing-areas-unique-away-end.html

It's progress; anything that attracts the new generation of fans to the game is a positive. It's not small time, it's recognising that going to the match is more than just the 90 minutes on the pitch.... and crucially, there is money to be made in making the experience as pleasurable as possible so that fans want to come back.

Nice to see the club making an effort to make the match a better environment for kids.

I don't agree with those hand clapper things mind, don't think they contribute well towards an atmosphere. However, at least we're making an effort to get more kids going the match.

Would like to see a reduction in ticket prices across the league. That would be a good incentive to get parents taking their kids with them.

its not them hand clappers as in the one fulham have is it?

I do understand the concept and yes it's good for families etc. I mean, I will stick to my same regime and wish everyone their best but there's one thing I hate doing and it'll relate to a thread I once started a few months ago:

I hate spending money at the game when everything is overpriced, a simple burger retails at 3.50. The same burger will cost £1.80 in a chippy and will probably be nicer. Easy suggestion, go the chippy before the ground? No, you are missing the point. The price should be relative across the board, get more fans in to the fan zone. The music is good and the atmosphere but they need to be competitive with their prices. Buy one get one free? It's marketing.

Please don't get me on to the "hospitality" inside the ground. My anger flares up from my stomach to my eyes.
