I like him too, I'll be sorry to see him go, but it's looking odds on now that he'll be leaving us this month.

He will only leave if a club meets our valuation and that is looking unlikely. TBH those clubs said to be interested have a bloody cheek with the amount they are offering, this is not a yard sale FFS.

I have heard on good authority that a deal is done and dusted and pending a medical. I will confirm this ASAP. Just keeping everyone up to speed.

it looks a fair certainty just looking at the way the OS is covering it.

Be a shame to see him go - but if we can get near 5 million, I suppose that can go to a midfielder warchest come the summer.

"James McFadden is an unbelievable talent. If we could manage to lure him to Birmingham then he would be a fantastic signing," said O'Connor.

"He has worked for the gaffer before and to get him here would be great because he's top class.

"If he came here he would score goals, as he has already done in the Premier League, and at national level, and he would be a great success and help the team.

"There's a lot of people after his signature but I think if we stump £5million up we would get him. Hopefully the chairman and the board can give the gaffer some money."

When senior players in a club start talking about other players and quoting cash amounts then normally that deal is going to get done. Maybe it is just the way I look at it.

McFadden keen on Birmingham moveJan 15 2008

By Brian ****

Birmingham City's top transfer target, Everton striker James McFadden, is desperate to secure a move to St Andrew's, according to a source close to the player.

The chance to reprise his partnership with Blues manager Alex McLeish is the key factor behind the Scotland international's desire to move to the West Midlands - but it is not the only one.

McFadden and McLeish were the inspirations behind Scotland's extraordinary Euro 2008 qualification campaign that saw the Bravehearts nearly emerge from a group containing both finalists at the last World Cup.

Goals by the former Motherwell forward against Lithuania, France and Ukraine meant the Scots needed to win their last remaining fixture, at home to Italy, to make it through to this summer's finals.

Even though they failed, both manager and player emerged as shining lights and ever since McLeish took over at Birmingham late last year, there has been speculation they are to be reunited with Blues.

McLeish confirmed his desire to make McFadden his first signing following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium and although the 24-year-old has not said anything publicly, The Post understands he is keen to move to Birmingham.

That is not to say he is especially unhappy at Goodison Park, where there is a suggestion he is about to be offered a new contract by manager David Moyes, but he would be persuaded by a more central role in McLeish's team.

McFadden went two months without a start earlier this season and has only returned to the Everton first team on a regular basis since
Yakubu and Steven Pienaar have gone to the African Cup of Nations.

When he does play, he is rarely employed as an out-and-out striker whereas, at Birmingham, he would be an ideal foil for Cameron Jerome.

However, it is far from certain whether McLeish will be able to persuade Moyes to do business, especially as he has already had two bids rejected, one of £2.5 million last week and another of £3 million yesterday.

Everton want nearer £5 million but that would consume all of McLeish's available budget which means the owners would have to subsidise the move, which they are almost duty-bound to do. Chairman David Gold implied they would do exactly that early last week.

Well as most of us on here have said, If They stump up the cash (around 5.5m) its time for him to leave.

Everton slap £5m price tag on James McFaddenJan 15 2008

by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo

BIRMINGHAM CITY must meet Everton’s £5m valuation of James McFadden if they want to lure him away from Goodison Park.

Though the Blues are in no hurry to sell the Scotland international, it is looking increasingly likely that his career on Merseyside will end during the current transfer window and there is even a chance McFadden could be gone before the end of this week.

Having had their opening bid of £2m dismissed out of hand, Birmingham raised their offer to £4m at the weekend only to see that rebuffed as well and Everton are now waiting to hear back from officials at St Andrews.

McFadden is well known to Birmingham boss Alex McLeish from his time as Scotland manager and he has made no secret that he wants to add the 24-year-old to his squad but Everton have made it clear they will stand firm.

I like Faddy to be honest. In the right game he is a great player, but as your main striking option, I'm not so sure he could carry it off. Good luck to him though if he goes, anything over 5m and I'd snap their hand off and buy Diara.

It´s quite incredible. I can´t remember when we were eager to sell a forward. I still remember a few years back, when we didn´t have anyone to score the goals for us. and now we have Vanichebe, Vaughan, Yak, AJ and MacF. And Cahill right behind them, and Jutkiewiz ( spelling ) looking very promising. So i say go for a sale, even though MacF is a true Evertonian.
