I'm not sure how someone gets arrested on a Friday then it's all over Twitter on the Saturday player's name and the offence surely it can only be leaked by the police or the club

Media announced all the details. All the club did is suspend said player which is standard practice.

If his anger is being directed at the club that pays his huge wages then he is stupid as well as crap (and probably injured too).

It's basically a game of "who is conspicuous by their absence" age stated or no age stated.

Best way forward all around was for no announcement that a footballer was arrested. 31 year old man. Defo no link to the club. Club could quietly suspend and state they are injured. Thst isn't without difficulty though.

If charges are pressed, the player will be named. The club has probably announced a suspension to avoid looking bad if anything comes of it, so always a difficult position. But if all had played it low key until charging is decided, a lot of noise and hassle is avoided at this point.

Agree the club are covering there own backs and thinking of no one else but themselves here. Not the suspended player or anyone else. They want to avoid an Adam Johnson scenario where the club refused to suspend, and heads rolled internally for it.

Oh absolutely, but I actually think they're acting way better than Sunderland did. Admittedly Johnson clearly span them a stack of lies about innocence on all fronts when he then proceeded to plead guilty to some of the charges. Suspension is probably best all round. Albeit horrible for the player if indeed innocent (which we have to presume).

Well yes, but everyone knows it's not him.

Without saying anything about the case, the British justice system works in such a way that literally nothing can be made public other than what has been already.

Obviously he has a right to be unhappy if he and his family got dragged into it but being furious with the club is pretty stupid.
