FA Cup Semi Finals at Wembley

What's eveyones opinions on the continued use of the national stadium for Semi Finals? Today we have the farcical sight of Manchester United playing a Semi on the home ground (for a season) of another club.

You know exactly what Mourinho will be saying should the Mancs lose.

Why couldn't this have been played at the Emirates? Or even the Eithad if it was to be played up North.

I think back to 2012 when us and Liverpool had to go all the way down to London when we've got Old Trafford on our doorstep where it really should have been played. To make matters worse it was a 12.45 kick off!

Even two years ago when we played United at the same stage it easily could have been played at Man City. Ok, chances are we'd have got less tickets had those two Semi Finals been played in Manchester so that would have been the down side.

Some of my favourite Everton memories are winning FA Cup Semi Finals at Highbury, Villa Park and Elland Road in the 80s and 90s. The sooner they are back on club grounds the better.

I remember hearing when the new Wembley was about to open that all future Semis would be played there and I thought then it was very wrong and stand by that, however, as usual, money rules all in football thesedays.

I reckon most will agree with you mate but as you say money is the reason. The Greyhound was great before United but getting to The Green Man for 9 for that ridiculously early kick off v them wasn’t really in was it?

Aye, Highbury was sound, so was Villa Park - have mixed views of there though - reckon giving us three sides of Elland Road that Sunday had us one foot in the old Wembley! The new Wembley is brilliant though compared to the old dump - seeing Crystal Palace do a lap of honour with the much sought after Zenith Data Cup is probably a low even for the Twin Towers! Good post mate

Due to the huge cost over run in building the stadium the deal was done for 25 yrs

I don't mind it, but then again I am not the one travelling from up North down to London. As for Spurs home advantage, is the pitch really that different from Old Trafford? They don't have the advantage of additional home support, so really the pitch itself is the only advantage.

if it was held at say villa park etc youd only get about 15k tickets, as it is now any season ticket holder is guaranteed a ticket without having to go aways etc.

it definitely took it away a bit when wed already beaten united in 09 but im willing to take the rough with the smooth

part of the club Wembley membership which costs a good few grand a year includes tickets to both semi finals as well the final, coca cola final, internationals etc...so they cant move it late notice even if they wanted to. As said, money rules, full stop.

73,000 yesterday....

As good a sign as any that the Wembley "Lure" is fast running out.

The prestige of the cup is gone and the overall trip cost for a semi final is ridiculous.

The cup should almost be on a par with the league in terms of importance. Now managers are slated by the media for ‘only’ winning the FA Cup. A sad state of affairs.
