FA Cup or 5th?

Winning the Cup would create another memorable chapter in our clubs history. The players and Manager would be remembered for ever as the team that won the FA Cup. It would be a memorable occasion for us all.

The FA Cup is still ingrained in the fabric and tradition of our sport, winning the FA Cup is a massive achievement.

We all know that league results haven't been good enough, but also we have played good football but thrown a lot of points away late on.
I am sure most teams' FANS would rather win the cup and finish mid table rather than do finish 2-5th. Winning silverware is really what it's about.

Let me try this one more time.

The question was NOT which do you prefer?

The question was if we had been knocked out of the Cup, but put together a more consistent run of performances and were now poised to finish 5th, would it alter your perception of this season and how successful it was?

5th gets you Europe. A Cup gets you Europe and a trophy. Edge to the cup, but ultimately both get you Europe.

If we finish 12th and win the Cup, has this been a successful season? Would you have considered a stronger league position and an exit in the cup to have been better, worse, or the same in terms of your perception of the season?

Would prefer the cup, not just because of the silverware side of things, but because it means the club has become a winning club.
I would feel better about us being consistent if we finished 5th, but having a winning side means hopefully consistency and confidence will follow.

The Cup all day.

Just want to sit off on Wembley steps in the sun after Romelu slots the winner to give the cup.

Last time we were there, it was the worst place on the planet and I couldn't wait to get home. This time I want it to be the polar opposite.

Cup all day and every day. Welcoming a trophy winning team back home and turning the city Blue ( its natural colour )is what its all about.

With the new investment we should become a greater force in terms of cup and league competition. We cant ignore one for the other from now on and I doubt Moshri will either

So nearly everyone in here would rather an FA Cup win than finishing 5th.

The real question I guess is why is there hundreds of pages on this forum devoted to blasting Martinez for our league position, when all we really want is a cup win?

Makes you think doesn't it?

Is this a serious question/thread? Quite frankly, if you feel the need to ask the question - let alone prefer a league finish (other than Champions) to a cup win - you really ahoildnt be following a team.

It's ALL about little shiny pots. Nothing else.

I'd take a League Cup win over finishing 2nd.

It used to be all about a CL spot and the pots of money that go with it.

Not for me it wasn't. All I want is a trophy or two, and to hang off a lamp-post still caned from Wembley, watching the open-top bus inch it's way through the crowds of Blues around Goodison.

I think a lot of you are missing the point, not that I'm arguing against a cup win. Of course a trophy matters more. The question was how would it affect your perception of the season as a whole and where we are as a club. Wigan won a cup. So did Portsmouth. A lot of good that did them despite how it felt at the time.

I'm just admitting that I'd feel better about our prospects going forward if we'd shown more in the league, which is 9 months, rather than a good cup run.

If the cup is that unimportant to you if you get a cup final ticket please donate to me.
