FA CUP 6TH ROUND DRAW

The FA Cup went nicely for us last season, all of the ties were original home draws but this season we have gotten all away ties. So I can see us getting another tough away tie.

strong logic.

Be thrilled with anyone other than United, City, or Chelsea in theory. But these away ties at lower league clubs have proved to be as just as difficult this season (see Bradford league cup final).

Yet Moyes disappointment! (See what I did there?).

I read on another thread the three bids to buy the club, new manager having loads of money scenario prior to early bird but for too many seasons I have been saying enough is enough and now it really is that close.

Moyes introduces a young lad too late, no time to bed in just stop the mighty Oldham scoring!!

**** me he really does not have a clue, the squad are tired lets secure this win by playing for a draw, Neville gets 90 minutes when he is fit enough for 9, must be due a three year contract.

Leave Moyes to his own devises, we chased Dickov enough to play for us, maybe he should be apply for dithering's job.

Yet again more ****e churned out!!!

Pal, this would've been better in the match thread, and without the asterisks.

Agreed, that's why some people would prefer a tough team at home than a lower league opposition.

mmm slightly convoluted argument here but i would prefer one of the big boys at home than weaker opposition in the 6th round, as it increases the chances of a playing against a weaker side on the neutral territory of the semi finals and final.

This line of thought has recently dawned on me too. It kind of makes sense, surely it would be better to get United at home in the quarters and a possible weaker side in the Semi's at Wembley?

Either way, we aren't even in the next round yet, and the team will need to improve a lot if they want to come anywhere close to winning the FA Cup.

The big 3 are 6 7 8 in the draw (assuming they make it - United might be resting players, Chelsea may face a tough tie at Boro and Leeds might give a midfiring City a bit of a game).

Recent FA Cup history

Man U - beat on pens 2009
Reading - lost 1-0 in 2010
City - lost 3-1 (QF Replay 1981)
Leeds - won 1-0 semi 1968 (Morrissey pen.)
Barnsley 1-0 win 1989
Millwall 1-0 win 2005
Blackburn - embarrassing 4-1 loss at home
Brentford - can't remember if we have played them in the FA Cup
Boro - won after 2 replays
Chelsea - won on pens 2012
Wigan - 5-2 win (1980)
Huddersfield - not sure we've played in FA Cup

When we were drawn against Oldham I assumed that it would have been Liverpool if they'd got through. I think most, if not all people would, too, but I'm not really sure, having given it more thought.

I mean, there's a new draw for ball numbers, different names go onto whatever goes into the barrel for that draw, and so on.

Don't think I've explained my thinking very well there, but do you know what I mean?

It's like missing two open goals and saying you should be leading 2-0. If the 1st one had gone in the game would've taken a different path and, well.....you know.

Home draw against the weakest team available. As it always should be!
With our recent poor results in cup matches against inferior opposition I say let's just concentrate in getting through to the next round instead of thinking 1 or 2 results in front.
Beat Oldham, then home to teams like Brentford/Huddersfield/Barnsley etc.
Worry about playing the "big clubs" later.

I just think if we play one of the bigger teams in the semi final then Moyes would go with that defensive mind performances which have hardly ever got us the results when it matters. If we got them at home he may attack them more, I don't just want a day trip at Wembley.

..it's getting to the pointy end where the draw could make a huge difference. Plenty of 'ifs' and 'buts', not least if we beat Oldham, but you have to hope for lower league opposition especially as there is a fair few of them still in. Failing that, a home draw and the hope that if we pull a big one the gods of Goodison will see us through.
