What a joke from Mercedes. So many terrible decisions. Why not pit Hamilton first? Why not 2 stop Bottas when he was calling for it really early in the race. Why not bring in Bottas once Perez took him to get the fastest lap?

Still picking this apart in my mind. Mercedes keep saying they’re up for a fight but then they keep bottling it at the key moment.

Giving Bottas priority at first pit stop which

Then not immediately pitting Hamilton the next lap when they knew it would trigger Max’s stop

Losing a 3.1s lead to Max’s undercut

Giving Verstappen first run at the 2 stop option

Bottas useless attempt at rear gunner probably cost Hamilton the 1 second or so he needed to hold on for the win

Awful sequence of misjudgements from them.

They keep messing up and falling further behind

Mistakes and misjudgements with regard to strategy happen in every team almost every race. We just notice Mercs more because they are always at the front where the coverage/narrative is focussed. They historically make fewer strategy errors than other teams because they aren't under pressure the way midfield teams are where one laps indecision can cost you multiple positions every single race. Now they are finally under true pressure and you see some costly mistakes occurring, its nothing abnormal though.

Both Red Bull and Ferrari have had considerably more costly strategy mistakes over this hybrid era.

Decent result for Russell finishing P12. Seems like he had a nicely, managed race in the Williams.

Think it was more a case of Red Bull getting their tactics spot on as opposed to Mercedes failure. Once Red Bull pulled the trigger Mercedes had no option, and Red Bull pulled the trigger rather early in my opinion.

Good to see a frustrated Bottas. I'm still trying to figure out why they didn't pit him once Perez overtook him? Only a net 2 points, but still...
