I think the one year was on Hamilton.

He'll want to see rock solid progress on the promise of a diversified team.

He clearly doesn't need the money, and would probably quite happily walk away at the end of the year if he felt progress was slower than he'd hoped. (particularly if he wraps up number 8)

Formula 1 wants to finalise plans to stage sprint races at select grands prix in 2021 after the plan received "broad support" from teams on Thursday.

F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed last week that sprint races were being considered as part of a format change for certain races this year, with the plan being discussed with teams at the latest F1 Commission meeting.

Speaking of Alonso, he has turned into an iRacing addict. 176 races in 2021 alone lol

He's on basically every night, even got a race in today before his accident

May as well post Verstappen and Norris's stats as well

It means Hamilton's race wins record will be under threat quite quickly as I can see them blurring the lines between 'sprint' and 'race' wins not too long after bringing it in.
Doubt it myself. They're only trialling it a 3 races this season, and there's nothing to say it will be kept on beyond that. Plus with the number of wins he has, even with sprint races being kept on and counting as full victories, it would take a team and driver being as dominant as Lewis has, or a driver staying in a contending team for year after year. And Hamilton is likely to extend his record by another 5-10 wins this year, maybe more.

I'm pretty sure it will be a commercial success that will be rolled out further. Friday becomes meaningful as 2nd practice will be effectively qualifying, so more people will attend the circuit that day. Saturday will have a race so again the people that usually skip qualifying and just come/watch on Sunday's will probably be there/tune in.

More money will come from TV companies as you'll have the 2 big days instead of 1 and the circuits will bring in more income.

Why I said Hamilton's race win record is under threat is because if they are pushing 22-25 race weekends and then most races have a sprint race you could easily have 40-50 races a season. Doesn't then take much imagination if a team hits a 3-4 year purple patch they'll rack up a century of wins fairly quickly.

Well there's not gonna be masses of fans at the races this year, and with everything going on I don't see it being a commercial success, and from a team's perspective, I don't see them being too keen. Much more risk of something going wrong on the Saturday that will ruin your Sunday, and at the moment the incentives (extra money/points??) are not enough to counter that. Think they'll give it a go and then vote it down. I also don't think that the sprint races will count, or that another team/driver combo will have the dominance Hamilton/Merc have.
