Another Mercedes mistake, could have easily pitted him 5 laps ago and got him to hunt down Verstappen on better tyres. That may have stopped Max from pitting for the fastest lap.

They were trying to get the gap on Alonso to pit and get ahead of him, plus trying to stretch out the stint for tyre advantage on Perez.

A mistake but an understandable one.
