Hamilton is going to use up his tyre advantage getting to within 2 seconds of Max, at which point Max will just pit again and go to the end.

Lewis will have to pit first, earlier than prime and hopefully leave max to make a similar decision.

He needs to get within 2 seconds, hopefully when there is some upcoming traffic, and then pit and just pray to God that Merc can pull off a 2 second stop and the undercut and traffic does the rest

As you said though Max could pull the trigger first.

Perhaps not if Hamilton pits that lap too and he stays within 3/4 seconds. He can hope to reel that in towards the end.

As Murray used to say catching is one thing, passing is another though.

But if Lewis can get close before half race distance then it closes off the option to go to the end for Max

If he can pull another 7 tenths he should pit next lap.

Mercedes made this SO difficult by handing Bottas the engine penalty.

It took away Hamilton's rear gunner, and opened up all the possibilities for Verstappen

Has to pit next lap unless they think they can go to the end. Doesn't sound like they will according to the radio though. They are going to make him catch up 6/7 seconds again.
