Expelling red carded player

is anyone else annoyed with sight of a player who received a red card and then has to leave the pitch and go to the locker room? why cant they just be allowed to watch the rest of the match from the bench? where refferees send red carded players in sunday leagues where there are no locker rooms? pub?
