'It's An Exciting Time' – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club

Sir Philip Carter has revealed the difficulties a club like Everton can be subject to during the transfer window - but has hailed the job David Moyes has done since joining in 2002.

Everton's former chairman and current Life President spoke to evertonTV at the opening of the new Everton Two store in the city centre of Liverpool.

And Sir Philip knows all about the excitement at a time when transfer speculation is rife.

"I think it's quite an exciting time," he exclusively told evertonTV. "As a previous chairman, I always found it exciting when you were looking for new players that the manager had indentified.

"When you secure them, you have a new element in your team.

"The work that goes on with the manager, the chairman, the chief executive and the board is quite considerable. The hard thing at the moment is the money that is needed to secure these transfers.

"It's difficult because you see that they are paying £80 million for Ronaldo, so the prices are increasing for the top players, so what David Moyes has done in indentifying players at an earlier level and spotting the potential is tremendous.

"From the point of view of what a player can now demand, they can make demands for things other than just their salary. And from that point of view, going back twenty years it was a much simpler job in those days."

Moyes is yet to secure his first signing ahead of the 2009/10 season, however Sir Philip believes the return of the likes of Yakubu and Mikel Arteta will be like new additions to the squad.

"I think we are all looking forward to the introduction of new players.

"But we have to remember if we get players that have been injured during the last season back, they will be like new players for us. And with them returning we have to have a successful season."

FOR FOOKS SAKE.

So whos excited? Whos peed off? Whos non plused?

Excited? No

Whatever happens, happens. There's no point working myself up about it.:D

Some people have actually voted "Excited".

Just to clarify, you are excited that we have made absolutely no first team signings?

Seriously pissed off by the lack of movement. :@

Every time i hear that saying "like new signings" it takes me back to last year when we did sod all in the transfer market.
Every year i get excited at the prospect of some great signings, only to be disappointed. This year i was well prepared for the disappointment i know is coming. :dodgy:

It's one of them. Usually I'd be fine with it because he's got all summer, but last summer coupled with the fact that every day in the Echo we seem to be saying 'we're not actually after this guy' rather than 'we're chasing this guy' is starting to do my head in.

Want it over and done with early so I can enjoy my summer.

I'm neither excited or angry.. just realistic.

Peterlin and the young german defender will most likely see action for the reserve team, perhaps a sub-in or a start against some team from the lower leagues in a cup. So we have yet to sign a player for the first team.

I am very sceptic that we'll sign someone in the coming 1-2 weeks, simply because we usually don't. I'd be happy if we did, but I don't think we'll do.

Everton don't really buck any trends when it comes to signings. That's why I'm expecting us to break our transfer record again, with tens of years of instalments,2 free signings along with 2 players under £2million each and one loan.
