Ex players on the pitch Sunday:

The worst thing about yesterday was Ferguson getting interviewed by Bellew.

He defo looks on something. He was daft and inappropriate to the occasion.

The legends are the legends for a lot of reasons. Having a bit of class is one of those things.

I dont know if anyone else agrees, but since he's been plugging this book and in the media for the past few weeks he looks like he's believing his own publicity. He was almost bearable when he was humble. Now he's got a giant ego to feed again and it doesn't look great.

He was the one fly in the ointment there yesterday.

No dobt some clown at the club will offer him a job believing it'll show they have the finger on the pulse.

….i can’t warm to the man, i thought he was putting on a performance for himself. The timing of his book launch with this moment in our history says lots about him.

I agree mate. But I like Wayne more because he's at least a born and bred blue and he's pretty considered in what he says - more so than Ferguson for sure.

But Evertonians are soft and sentimental fools: Kenwright and Sharp will have statues down at that new stadium. Give it a few years.
I get the reservations about Ferguson but at least he played a big part in Everton avoiding relegation in 97/98 when scoring a good amount of goals on the run in.

It's embarrassing to even mention securing premiership status as something to celebrate but had Everton been relegated in 1998 then who knows what would have happened to the club given the finances at that time.

Conversely Wazza joined Manchester United of all clubs when he was 18 years old. Plus he's basically a spokesman for Manchester United in the media, mentioning who they should sign etc.

Embarrassing to give him a platform to speak at Goodison Park.

….Ferguson can’t lace Rooney’s boots as either a footballer or an Evertonian.

Rooney was a special talent, he joined arguably the biggest club on the planet and one of the biggest sporting franchises in the world. I said at the time it was totally understandable and I was chuffed to see him go onto achieve what he did with United. It’s not surprising he comments on them given he was part of their success.

….top class, if you add in the numbers on the booze from 09.00am that’s some effort. Well done Toffees;

And this illustrates more than anything the fact that the club was far too cautious in making Hill Dickinson a mere 53,000 capacity.

60,000, at a bare minimum, should have been the capacity.

I have no doubt the new owners, or subsequent future owners, will address this issue in the future.

But right now I feel EFC has short changed itself.

I got an awful shock just looking at the "This Is Your Life" tribute videos there. I was wondering who the old Soviet from the 60s was so I replayed it and he said he was Andrei Kanchelskis.

I know we all age, but Arsene Wenger looks younger than him. I remember Andrei as a muscular young buck...

I don't feel quite so ancient myself, now...

I agree. But you know what? In the planning stages, the company doing the feasibility study advised Everton to cap the stadium at lower than 45k - Everton argued vehemently against that.

I too think the new ground is too small. Should have been 60k. If you build it, they will come...

I like Wayne and loved watching him , his talent was glorious and I feel privileged to have watched him play . I also have been present on away games with his family and they are and have always Been massive Evertonians .

I doubt you’ll find. Single supporter of any team that would argue against you in your first point but can’t lace his boots as a Evertonian I feel like I’ll need your reasoning for that one . Rooney couldn’t wait to get out of goodison and kissed the Man U badge , not when he’d scored just because he wanted to .

What is it exactly about him that makes him such a massive Evertonian ?

I don't think Luca Chianti was consulted when they did the feasibility study.

Sorry @Eggs I agree with you on a lot of things, but I can’t on this particular issue. I was never chuffed to see Rooney score and win things with United. It hurt so much. He was a once in a lifetime generational talent, who was a blue and we barely had him for 2 seasons. He should have stayed longer than he did. The PR mistakes he made at United (including kissing the United badge at goodison) just rubbed salt in the wounds.
