Everton's Next No.1

Have people actually seen Begovic, or do they just assume he's good?

Because whenever I've seen him play, he's been pretty bog standard, and that's being generous.

Seems like he gets the Tim Howard "myth over reality" treatment to me.

thought about 3 years ago he was one of the best int he league but since then he has dropped back to just being another decent but error prone keeper, better than what we have but not what we need if that makes any sense

Romero/Ospina/Valdes, all would be OK short term if there's no obvious long term quality target available. You would hope though that the scouts have a short list and succession planning in place for when this day came.

I think Joel had done ok since he's come in, but there's definitely been a few goals where if it'd had been Howard he woodcr been slaughtered. I'm really not sure if he's good enough to be out long term 'keeper, but he he got to the end of the season to prove he is.

I also guess it'll depend on who the manager is. Martinez may want a sweeper style 'keeper with great distribution, but if he goes the next manager might look for different qualities.

I don't want to post the video again but Lovre Kalinic, new Croatian no.1, is about 25 and looks brilliant. Villa tried to sign him for £4.5m ish but had work permit issues

Of the keepers in England there's none available who are better than what we have, at least in the Prem. The scouting team will have a list as long as your arm of foreign based keepers - it's making the deal that's the major hurdle. The thing with good keepers is that everyone wants one.

Personally I'd have no qualms letting Joel have a good shot at being No1 - He's only 25 and still doesn't have a huge amount of Premiership experience. Definitely need competition / cover though.
