vs bourmouth

versus city cleverly replaced barkley(more discpline?!) and the two wingers played much wider looking for the counter and it worked to a point. Geri was unlucky vs city.

personally and i cant knock the guy at all, id like to see rom make more runs off the ball. Pelle at southampton did play in a similar way (to rom now occuping the central defenders) but rom has more to him, i think. Geri, bolasie and kev are all capable of driving at defenses how ever without bainesy we sometimes lack a decent crosser of the ball which is crucial when focusing on central play. Coleman and bolasie are hit and miss? and barkley and kev would rather shoot, gerry likes to cross early which rarely suits.

the above points out how much our wingers love to cut in. Gerry has tried to play wide in the past but is far more effictive cutting in and i get the sense that bolasie is similar both can whip a good ball in but do they want to, its not the first thing on their mind, the same goes for ross to a point. (in the game vs boro, were ross was obviously told to hold a bit more he had a whopping 91% pass completion, vs stoke he had 4 shots on target and two key passes)

you can see similar patterns in a previous southampton side

mccarthy when fit is a great player, i cant knock either barry or gueye who for me have been our two best players this season, i also wont knock ross who i love (no homo). I can see mccarthy forming a solid base with the other two, the pressure is then on the wingers to work effectively..
We clearly dominated possession v Burnley, but did nothing with it. All too often there was not enough running off the ball, and when there was, either the player with the ball did not see it, or the running player was offside. This sort of thing requires a drilled discipline aligned with a confidence that is not there in a lot of our attack. I would assume Koeman and the staff give them lots of instruction before a game, but they do not seem to be able to carry it out. Too many touches in the box, poor passing, drifting out of position, not marking, loosing focus. All these things are coach-able - all these players, and the coaching staff are paid massive wads of money to get it right. They need to start earning!

Tom Davies and Jonjoe Kenny both looked very impressive.

Likewise Galloway and Holgate
Agree Zat all 4 of them look really good when exposed to the first team. But you dont get thst tingle in your spine you used to get with Rooney coming off the bench. That sense of expectation. Never had it since with the possible exception of Del in RMs first season.

I think thats because hes a forward player whilst the others are defenders...i mean he was world class of course but you wouldnt have the same feeling for a world class full back...

In fairness mate I was responding to Charles Hawtrey post 9. Defenders, world class or otherwise, wouldn't normally get you to react in that way.

Would just like to see an Everton side fighting for every ball for 90 minutes. Is it really too much to ask for players to just leave everything on the pitch once a week? Instead the majority of the last decade has felt like watching one long training exercise.

Agreed. Our last bit of creativity left the club with Arteta. Admittedly, he was injured too much of the time, cracking player though when at his best.

Haven't had a player since who can touch him. Some of our fans argued that Fellaini and McCarthy were better though. We get the football we deserve sometimes.

Let's assume the defence is sorted for now. Can we please get a play maker in the January window, even if it is on loan. Our position, form and direction will have a mighty effect on who we can attract in the summer window.

How do people feel about Everton's current playing style? Fresh? Bland? Missing something?

I think most would agree, those first 6 months of Bobbymoyestime seemed so filled with promise and exctiment, but then as time went on the taste became predictable, bitter and stale. How do you feel about the current menu?

We know there has to be a recipe of drilled defence verses attacking flare for our players in there somewhere. But what is that?

Of course, it's up to the current "chef" to get the mix right, but what would you want to cook for the Everton faithful?

The balance has to be somewhere between a hot and spicy "up and at 'em" curry and a stodgy, bland defensive (but filling) pie?

So far, I feel like we are missing a few ingredients. The last transfer window was like someone went grocery shopping with a long list of fresh gourmet food, but came back with a small tin of beans, day old bread and a badly crushed packet of cheese and onion crisps.

I'm no Chef Ramsay, but how about: 1/2LB of flour, two eggs, half a cup of milk, 2 fresh Lukakus (you can do it with one, but two will put more nutritious onions in the bag), 1oz of sweet creative mid, 1oz of spicy defensive mid, 1 large centre half, a dash of wingers and a pinch of good luck. Put it in the oven and cook at gas mark 7 for eight or so months.

Anyone else got any good recipes we could pass on to Ron?

Get them winning - the first 5 games had wins and a draw, with more or less the same 'style' as the next 5 which were poor on results.

Q) Guess which 'Style / set of 5' people liked?

A) The set of 5 / 'Style' with no losses.

It's utter trash.

Look at that lot yesterday. They have halfway decent players plus a talent like Coutinho who can pull their strings. They went on the 'kin rampage in that game yesterday at a difficult away ground.

If they can go there and create bucket loads of chances and come away with three points then there's no excuse for us (and certainly not at home) to be playing overly cautious football.

Koeman needs to sort the back four out and drill them rather than have 8 behind the ball - which makes us more secure but less of a threat.
