It's utter trash.

Look at that lot yesterday. They have halfway decent players plus a talent like Coutinho who can pull their strings. They went on the 'kin rampage in that game yesterday at a difficult away ground.

If they can go there and create bucket loads of chances and come away with three points then there's no excuse for us (and certainly not at home) to be playing overly cautious football.

Koeman needs to sort the back four out and drill them rather than have 8 behind the ball - which makes us more secure but less of a threat.

They have better players than us in nearly every position.

"It is always important to have scoring players in your squad and I believe we have good players in that position," said Koeman. "But they need to be more clinical and give more productivity to the team. If it does not happen then maybe you need to look for someone else.

"If you watch the Burnley game, then we had 20 shots in total and we had some good chances in the box. We do a lot of finishing exercises in training, but we need to be more clinical."

We field 4 attacking players every game, Barkley is "our Coutinho" who is currently doing his best impression of a League Two player.

And its totally fair to compare us to a team whos manager has had 12months and 2 windows to get the team how he wants.

And yet the tactics leave almost all of them behind the ball....

When Man Utd won everything Ferguson left wingers up the pitch to hold back the full backs...we invite them to attack us.

Koeman at Southampton lost quite a lot of games by high scores...yet hes meant to be a tactical mastermind all of a sudden as they went on a run 2nd half of last season.

He couldnt win in 10 games at one stage...

That's not true. Our defence is better and we have a striker of note who consistently scores goals season in season out. They have the edge over us creatively from midfield. But the main thing they have over us is a manager committed to getting numbers forward and putting maximum pressure on the opposition in the transition from defending to having possession.

See above.

The emphasis from Koeman is on defending in numbers. He can talk all he wants about having scorers and playing four attacking players, but if you set up to largely defend then you place those players at a massive disadvantage in doing their primary job.

And he may have been here a few months, but he's been in the PL for 2 and a half seasons and should know as much as anyone that attacking football pays dividends in this league.

I think he's a decent enough manager for a team in our position looking to become solid again quickly, but the amount of spin he gets as a manager is crazy. The feller has done nothing.

He'll probably get us top 7 again consistently. Great. Not arsed by that tbh, though. I'd rather see us play some great togger and be in with a shout of a cup each season.

Apart from that simplistic proto wind up material above you're half right...one of the parts of the 'you're also half wrong' is that, as always, it's often forgotten that the game is won and lost in the MF. The MF support the forward attacking AND the defensive endeavours of the back 4...but we don't actually have a MF
Oh we have Barry, who once was a proper MF player...and can still do a decent imitation as long as he doesn't have to do too much running too many times a week and Gana/Gueye or what ever it is we call him, who...well he does what he does, which should be 'the Sammy Lee then give it to Souness and let him get on with it' thing.

Except we don't have a Souness. Or a Ball, Kendall, Harvey - a Steven, Reid, Bracewell, Sheedy... we don't even have Barry Horne and Joe Parkinson or Gravsen Areteta.

What we have is 'Buck-she' wingers. Mirallas, Del, Lennon, Bolasie being asked to be MF's and thus failing at both more often than not.
Least said about Cleverly, Gibson and Besic...if fit any one could be 'carried' in a decent team and do a decent job...until Scholes or a proper MF comes back.

Then we have Barkley...lets just say he could be but isn't...If there's anybody I've missed out well they must be eminently forgettable

Short version; Until Koeman gets some balance in the team, balance by way of proper MF's we're not going to attack like it's 69-70
any way I'm off to watch the game and all the players I've slagged will have blinders

City played Silva in deep midfield yesterday away at West Brom and won with ease. Sevilla are flying in La Liga with Nasri playing in deep midfield. How long will we continue this ridiculous trend of only putting creative players in wide positions.

today wasn't thrilling to watch until we went ahead but i'll take those Moyes-like tactics against the more pants opposition if it means we get regular 3 points.

would've been utter doom on here had we lost, mind lol
