Everton Youth Teams Thread

Just getting round to watching the game now and I swear their No. 7 should have been sent off @ 40 mins for kicking Ojo a few times haha.

Davies and Cook both playing brilliantly (I'm on 55 mins) and that Palmer is very overrated.

Wait until Solanke comes on and they start gushing. Does two good passes the whole time he is on.

Still cannot get over how he won player of the tournament for scoring tap ins.

Not even RS related, just do not think he is very good

I agree, which is why I'm totally comfortable giving the lad his opportunity. Unlike so many others he seems to improve exponentially rather than a slow, steady, linear fashion. Compare him to 9 months ago. Said it before the lad is very intelligent and has the work ethic and natural ability to match.

Honestly in another 9 months we could be looking at a top, top player.

A few of our players such as DCL, Davies, Lookman and Kenny seem to have unlimited potential. In each case it's like they just need to improve only a couple of straightforward things which probably come with experience but the rest of their games are explosively impressive.

that cook cant get a game for Bournemouth can he

I said during the last game that I rate him...good player.

Hard to give an unbiased view. Cook has been captain at U20s, played last week for the u21 and is used to having all the build up starting through him, so the was very much the man with the ball in the first half. 2nd half Tom for me was the dominant of the two and I think poses much more of a threat going forward than Cook , though Davies didn't get many driving runs in the game. I wonder if they will have a Cook/ Davies dilema - can they play both as they are similar in style in some. ways but there's others like Onomah who offers something different to either of them.

Onomah is just a lump really...he's a 'good' player of course but not a 'showstopper' and for all round play and ability both Cook and Davies seem another level to him...he just has the physique. Cook does always dictate the play, not really a playmaker but more of a lynchpin I guess. I could see Davies as box to box and Cook sitting. I guess this matches with what you said happened in the 2nd half?

i would just fast track davies to the senior squad, hes already better than the likes of livermore and chalobah, henderson has near 40 caps and is yet to have a good game too.
plus i have money on him to be in the world cup squad!

Livermore shouldn't be in the squad. I think if we hadn't signed Cuco people would be calling for Kenny to be in the England squad now Clyne is out for 3 months. Davies could do with a couple more England u21 games or showing consistency like he did last year with us.

Probably looking through blue tinted glasses Zat but I thought Tom was the better of the two on the night, although Cook did have a very good game too. The commentators and "experts" were all raving over Cook though.

The reason why I chose Davies is he strolled his way through the game. Was at the heart of everything we did and controlled the tempo of the game. I don't remember him misplacing a pass, and his decision making was equally impressive. He probably played a bit deeper than we are used to. You could see he was the one player on the pitch who is getting regular game time in the premier.

His performance was all the more impressive as this was the first time he has played at this level. The squad was mainly comprised of last years U20s in which Cook was the heartbeat as you know and none of these players would have played with Tom before. I think Blueloon touched on it last night that initially the players were understandably looking for Cook, but as the game wore on Davies took control and by the second half he was running it.

I'm pleased for the lad because he's had a fairly indifferent start to the season and I think he'll get a bit of confidence from his performance last night.

The other players I was impressed with last night were the two CBs, Gomes and Tomori. They look an excellent pairing, big strong lads who can both play a bit too. We know Tomori from the world cup last year. Gomes is from the same age group and was one of the centre halfs when they won the U17 euros a few years ago (when Kenny and Ledson starred). He was injured for the world cup but looks to have stepped up in class since I last saw him.

I watched the game against the dutch where our other lads were involved and it seems they were all rested for this game and Davies was thrown in at the deep end but against a poor team. I would have kept the same side with all our players in it as wins breed wins imo and you want those players getting used to the older lads in the squad.

interesting that perhaps subconsciously they all looked for 'Captain Cook' but later Davies directed play...shows the players obviously realised that Tom was either a better player or just having a better game.

Gomez was awful against Holland, so was the chap from Boro so Tomori must have replaced him there. I remember Gomez, he was someone I wanted us to sign but vs Holland looked a shadow of the player perhaps due to the major injury he suffered.

Palmer came on vs Holland and looked like a headless chicken.

Yes, an actual chicken with no head.

Make of that what you will.

Can't see it either...same against Holland.

I don't know what he does?

@Zatara

I'm quite pleased with the way Boothroyd handled the squad for the two games; remember DCL and Lookman especially will likely be playing this weekend. I'm hesitant to say the team vs Holland is his "preferred" XI as you'd suspect with 9 changes but in general it's a stronger team. Team vs Latvia looked better but Latvia are nothing on the Dutch side which has a lot of players with many senior games under their belt.

I like Josh Onomah but his position has changed; used to always see him playing attacking mid but now he's being mounded into a sort of Dembele centre mid which is fine but a bit of a waste. Cook is seen more of the captain than Davies purely because he was the U20 captain I suspect.

Re: Gomez. He was exceptional against a poor Latvia team so make of that what you will. I do rate him and give him leeway after his shocking injury troubles. Tomori is a better player than Dael Fry IMO - very quick and strong but needs more minutes in men's football. Not sure how I'd compare them to Holgate whom we've rarely seen play in a 2. I was surprised Hause wasn't involved.
