Everton Youth Teams Thread

Oh, I agree the general standard of teaching is likely to be better but Barnsley academy have produced two players regularly getting games in the Premier league and as far as I am aware City despite all their resources have none.

Perhaps making it in the premier league isn't just based on a lads footballing technique but also on other factors such as early game time in none youth team games - all of those you mentioned had that early exposure as did Delli Alli?

Would be interested in seeing where all the premier leagues domestic u21 players originated from - onthe face of it appears that going to a smaller academy for the early years and then getting polished by Everton/Spurs/Liverpool might give a player more chance of success than going to City/Chelsea for your entire development.

Maybe depends which academies they are? I think MK and Barnsley have very good academies for the level they're at. I think MK had a very highly rated academy coach who is now with England (Micicche I think his name is) who brought a few through including Galloway and Ojo along with Allli.

Yeah, think it just stuck in my craw that the poster was so arrogantly confident that Man City's academy was the best choice for everyone despite it having no track record of bringing through any players!

With DCL, Lookman and Kenny going away this week our first team squad is extremely thin for the final two games unless injured players return. All 3 either started or were on the bench.

Maybe a chance for the likes of Robinson and Walsh to get in the matchday squad.

Five Everton youngsters have been called up to the England Under-20s squad for the World Cup later this month.

Defenders Jonjoe Kenny and Callum Connolly, plus midfielders Kieran Dowell, Ademola Lookman and forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been included in Paul Simpson’s Three Lions group.

Hosted by South Korea, England have been placed in Group A and will kick off their campaign against Argentina on Saturday 20 May (6.30am kick-off BST) in Jeonju World Cup stadium, before facing Guinea three days later in the same venue (8am). They complete their group by facing the hosts in Suwon on Friday 26 May (12pm).

England qualified for the tournament off the back of their performance in the 2016 European Under-19s Championships in 2016, where the Three Lions reached the semi-finals, with Kenny, Connolly and Lookman in the squad.

Steve Walsh, Everton’s Director of Football, said the Blues have given the players permission to travel with England despite the first-team squad still having to play Arsenal in their final game of the campaign on 21 May.

“We’re happy for them to go and gain the massive experience of being involved in a World Cup tournament,” he said. “There will be great value to the players in terms of their continued development and they’ll reap the benefits.

“We think they’ll be ready to kick on next season in the Premier League and this tournament will help them do that.”

Promising Walsh eyes them for first team football next year. Should be a boost to Dowell and Connolly who might have worried there'd be no room at Everton for them.

..South Korea isn't exactly a place you'd choose to pay a visit to at the current time.

5 is about right from previous squads and pretty impressive for us, I'm surprised Ryan Ledson hasn't made it , he seems to have had a good season at Oxford. A few high profile names like Patrick Roberts at Celtic choosing to stay with their clubs rather than go , so more opportunities for our guys. Though I seem to recall that some of the youngsters last season were given extra time off due to playing internationals, and they missed being able to make an impression in pre season.
