Everton Youth Teams Thread

It appears to me that we’ve broadened our scouting network in recent years away from local scouts to more national/ international coverage and are now fishing in a more diverse pond. Whether that’s a result of fewer local scouts , fewer talented “ local” players or both I don’t know.

The end result is an external influx of potentially decent players in both age groups. At u21 - Gomez , Nigeria; Boakye Ghana; Benjamin Arsenal,; Tamen last season from Burton. And an even bigger external influx at U18s with Akarakiri, Clarke, Graham, Loney , Freedman, Matos, Poland. And we’ve still brought or are bringing longer term players through the ranks like Armstrong, Foster, Thomas, Olayiwola , Robert, Moses etc and four u21s in the Palace squad.

We know they won’t all make it, but I find it refreshing and exciting seeing these newcomers coming in along side local players.
Gomez is Gambian which is a popular surname over there (the other lots Joe Gomez is also of Gambian descent)

Only 2 of those players at a maximum will play for the first team.

Just because they make a subs bench in ijury crisis doesent mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things

Ryan Astley, Kyle John, Makenzie Hunt, Reece Welsh, Tyler Onyango, Joe Anderson, Lewis Warrington, Jenson Metcalfe

Who all have all been granted access to KTs "G" edition of FM Genie Scout

It is good news but the problem with this form of recruitment now is how limited it is to bring in younger overseas players since Brexit - although doesn't seem to have impacted Chelsea that much!!

Thing is though as a club we dont seem to have taken as much advantage of the ESC slots like other clubs, plenty of team unearthing massive talent from South America for decent fees and putting them on ESC.

We need to start taking advantage of this a little more imo.

Agreed. I don't know where you can see who has been allocated ESCs. Are Boakye and Gomez on them in the U21s - because I can't imagine they met the criteria for work permits based on international appearances and suchlike.

All scouting departments will have shrunk but this is specifically referring to local scouts where data isn't availible and scouting remotely isn't feasible
Totally fair. I think that’s changing quickly though.
I live in a small/mid size city in Canada where footie is NOT a thing at all, and even our local amateur youth club have started using drones etc. I doubt the data is readily available, but I would expect a premier league powerhouse to have considerably more pull and resources to get their hands on it if they wanted to.
Just seemed like such a ridiculous and sensationalized headline when even the most basic technological advancements have made having that many staff on the books redundant.
