Everton Youth Teams Thread

Just as i said yesterday or day before this Everton v west brom match never fails for tons of goals, and Everton u18s came from 2 down after 6mins to win 7-3 with goals from Cannon 2, Dobbin 2, Quirk, Onyango, Hughes to complete a rout, Everton now have 2 wins from 2 games,go 4th for now and now go away to the leaders man city who have 3 wins from 3 next saturday morning

A nice spread of goals from five of our midfielders/ attackers. Looks like Bobby Carrol is coming back from his injury, did he get game time?
First appearances on the bench for two players, Katia Kouyate an attacker and Daniel Rose a goalkeeper. Both have come up through our ranks , u14s etc, playing alongside the likes of Dobbin and Onyango in the past, but I believe they are 15 year olds and not new “ Scholars” , though both names are appearing in our list of u18s.
There’s a definite move to including the younger players in u18 squads this season more than previously. This may be an effect of the ban not allowing us to bring outside English players in, but it doesnt appear to have harmed us so far , it looks like we’ve got a talented bunch on our hands. Oh, and Dobbin and Onyango clearly need to be in the first team.

Young Dobbin sounds like a player I know they are keen to get him signed up as he isn't 17 and can't sign a contract until later this year.

The U18s always seem to start like a train before fading in the second half of the season, can you imagine the first team being 2-0 and coming back to lead 6-2 would never happen.

Yeah we can fade later in the season, but often the players who catch the eye at the start of the season get promoted to the U23s later on , obviously a sensible move but it can weaken the u18s towards the later stages . Last season Astley and John fell into that category and to a certain extent Gordon too, plus we also start to take a look at some of the promising schoolboys . Towards the end of last season Dobbin, Onyango and Tom Cannon got their first game time at this level and all featured today . It’s a different set of circumstances for many reasons compared to the U23s , but I find the u18s approach to blooding and developing youngsters very refreshing.

Everton did stay 4th today after that massive win 1 point behind 2nd,they had a little chance of moving up to 3rd based on what the result between wolves and liverpool would be,it ended 1-1 with Liverpool getting there usual injury time goal to end 1-1 after they last week got a last minute winner, champions Derby after only losing 3 in 22 games in winning the league last season have gone and lost again for there 3rd lost in 3,city with 3 from 3 and Everton with 2 from 2 are the only teams who can and have a 100% winning start to the season, they face each other next week as said

Everton Under-18s manager Paul Tait hailed his team’s “different class” second-half performance after they beat West Bromwich Albion 7-3 in a thrilling encounter at USM Finch Farm.

The young Blues delivered an impressive exhibition of attacking football on Saturday to maintain their 100 per cent record in U18 Premier League (North).

West Brom got off to a flying start, racing into a two-goal lead within the opening seven minutes.

Everton rallied and were back on terms by half-time, Tom Cannon and Tyler Onyango on target for Tait’s team.

The second half saw Everton overwhelm the Midlands side, with the young Blues showcasing their collective skill, invention and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Lewis Dobbin struck 12 minutes after the break, before quickfire efforts from Cannon and Sebastian Quirk put the Blues 5-2 ahead.

Rhys Hughes added a sixth late in the piece, and although the Baggies hit a late consolation, the clinical Dobbin completed his brace in stoppage time to wrap up a resounding Everton success.

“In the second-half, we were different class,” Tait said. “It was a really exciting attacking performance.

“We didn’t start well and we gave ourselves a bit of a hill to climb.

“It was a real challenge. We got it back to 2-2 before half-time but we were still wide open at times in our defensive transition.

"We talked about that at half-time, and talked about the challenge of starting the second half better, getting on the front foot and bossing the game.

“After the break, we everything we asked for, the lads produced. It was very pleasing."

The Toffees have won their opening two matches of the league campaign, having beaten reigning champions Derby County 2-1 a fortnight ago.

The young Blues also impressed at the prestigious Otten Cup recently, finishing third in the tournament which was held in Eindhoven over the weekend of 17 August.

The competition featured European heavyweights such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and hosts PSV Eindhoven.

“The lads who went to the Otten Cup did fantastically well for the club,” Tait added.

“They represented Everton with distinction.

“We’ve began the league season well, too. There is still lots to improve on, but it’s been a positive start.”
