Those no marks had never lost a friendly until we beat them.Yeah nice one.
Name a good point about our pre season.
What? We beat a bunch of no marks in America with the team that'll be playing v Arsenal? Woooo

How did Rodwell and Cahill do as a partnership in midfield?
Rodwell was his tidy self. Bit suspect on counter attacks and his positioning is still improving. Cahill was in and out in spells - he and Fellaini swapped now and then but it seemed like Cahill was getting man-marked heavily, he was having some grief with one of there players the full game.
As a partnership it wasnt amazing but effective. Fellaini did drop a and help out a fair bit though - made some good defensive headers and tackles (he's improving very well in that department).
Good to here, I wouldn't mind going like that against Arsenal and playing Neville right back behind Osman.
Might be a bit of gamble but it's a bit more positive.
Think we'd get done big time on the counter. Rodwell would get lost with Arsenal knocking it about around him.
I think that Moyes is trying to make the Cahill/Fellaini thing work more in the middle than anything else.
Agreed, not a fan of putting Cahill back into Central Midfield to accomodate Fellaini. Take away Cahill's attacking instincts and he just becomes an average midfielder. Not very quick, not a great passer, not a great tackler, just drifts in and out the game.
They should be fighting for that position. I like them both, but Moyes made the mistake of buying a 15 million pound man who plays best in a position where we already had one of our best players.
I wouldn't got that far, he certainly didn't at the Emirates last season and that was alongside Osman. Cahill also have combative qualities and is solid defensively and Fellaini will drop deep when needed.
The onus is on us to attack, and that should always be the case at Goodison, doesn't matter what side we are playing. Keeping possession and trying to control the tempo of the game is key really, Rodwell is certainly the closest thing we have to Mikel when it comes to that.
Cahill and Fellaini isn't the long term answer for me, not week in week out anyway. When Arteta comes back I'd much rather see him and Neville in the middle with Cahill/Fellaini fighting for that position just ahead. At the moment though, there all we've got and we'll have to find a way to use them effectively.
Agree. I wonder if Moyes might be playing with the idea of a 4-3-2-1 formation, with both Fellaini and Cahill as AM's? Not that we're going to play it, but the thought is interesting.This. ^^
Cahill is not Cahill in CM, he can play there, but hes not effective at all.
Oh, you got me wrong there. I dont mean Fellaini and Cahill in the middle, I meant the two of them swapping in the game with Rodwell or Neville sitting off. It seemed that Moyes was working the 2 to swap when the game needed it, not hacing both of them in the middle.
That's what I meant really, I don't think it's the answer to our problems long term. It should be one or the other for me with Arteta and Rodwell/Neville in the middle.
At the moment it's probably our only option so they both should play.
