My wife used to live next door to hans segars around that time in the south. He never told her it was fixed so I guess it couldn't have been. If it was fixed, good on whoever fixed it

Strangely even at 2 down I never felt like we wouldnt get the result we needed, talking to Graham Stuart a few years after it he said the Wimbledon team were very subdued compared to usual
I always felt there was an air of defience that day where as the Coventry game felt like attending a funeral

I think the Segers non-save was referred to in court but didn't form part of the match-fixing evidence against him.

From memory, didn't Fashanu miss the game with an infected finger tip or something daft. Yeah right.

Didn't our fans set off the Wimbledon hotel fire alarms in the middle of the night!lol

Not up for it, were they?!

Yep always amazed me how they fixed the ball to arrow like a rocket into the top corner off Barry's boot.

The Stuart goal wasn't great from the keepers point of view but if I remember rightly it was almost like he block tackled it in and that could have taken Segars by surprise. Us in the goalkeepers union like to get settled and see when the attacker pulls the foot back ready to shoot.

Rumours that it was fixed are started by people who like to belittle us that we couldn't do it without help. (cough RS cough..)

I don't think there is much doubt that some footballers have thrown games but the Wimbledon game seems legit to me. The players were massively intimidated by the crowd and had every right to be as well. Like dario said I also remember vinny Jones looking extremely worried about coming anywhere near the touch line a few times and they were desperate to get off the pitch

Just noticed this.

I have a mate, who has a mate who played for Wimbledon. (edit, who I got to know) It wasnt fixed, in the pre agreed way, but Wimbledon players were fine with losing.

They must have found it bloody confusing to be 2-0 up! What the hell do we do now? I know, give away a very soft penalty.

My overriding memory was thinking 2-2 would be enough - Ipswich were away at Shearer's Blackburn and I wa sue they would get beat there - the Stuart goal was a bonus at the time, but in hindsight was desperately needed otherwise we would have gone. Just think Wimbledon buckled under the atmosphere, their players were all edging to the tunnel before the final whistle, couldn't wait to get off and avoid the pitch invasion. A truly amazing game one that will live forever, but no fix in my mind
I remember the same thing about the Wimbledon players, they just didn't want to be there in the second half. I've never believed in the fix allegations, but can imagine a scenario whereby the Wimbledon players would not have been exactly distraught by us winning as it would mean them getting off the pitch alive. I do think some of them were afraid for their own safety for most of the second half.

People talk about segers but you could look at the officials - our penalty was so dodgy and Dave Watson saved one off the line with his arm. I guess we were just destined not to go down.

Mad game. If you watch the longer highlights, you will see that Dean Holdsworth really had enough chances to put us down, he missed two open goals and a further good chance. He wasn't deliberately missing though, that would have took more skill than actually scoring when you see the way in which he missed his chances.
