Match Thread Everton v West Ham. Wed 30th July. 23.30

It wasn't a great game for us, but I'm pretty confident it will be alright on the night come the start of the season. Also, I thought Harrison Armstrong looked decent enough out there.
Looked decent in the first half, but he had a few Beto-style first touches which allowed the West Ham midfielders to steal the ball. Thought he faded badly in the second half, but still better than other midfielders apart from Gueye.

In an ideal world with no squad problems, Armstrong, Chermiti and probably Iroegbunam need to go on loan. Patterson did himself no favours although no wild mistakes. O'Brien was heaps better once he moved to the right.

None of them can go on loan until we bring in a minimum of 2 more midfielders and 2 more forward players, preferably wide ones. Chermiti and Iroegbunam aren’t good enough to be squad options but as it stands they’re all we have in reserve.

It’s been an omnishambles of a window. We are totally unprepared to start the season in 2 weeks time. One more friendly to go after United leather us on Sunday.

Their first goal is a real calamity. During the Blackburn game, my son noticed Travers comes out for crosses in a quite unique fashion, with a straight jump.

This won't help him catch the ball, and it's put him in a position last night where he's had to punch rather than glide for the catch.

I never want to see Mcneil start
I don't think Moyes rates him, or is at least asking more of him before he gets him starting regularly. He's already shifted him to the right side of midfield.

His unwillingness to use his right foot means he is always going to cut inside, which is perhaps a thing Moyes is asking him to develop - e.g. his right foot.

Just watched the extended highlights.

Wowee.. that first half wasn't a very good advert for the Premier League was it? misplaced passes & individual mistakes all over the shop..

Can't say I can see the United game going too well...

Just saw the result and highlights. Looks like we got battered. Team looks an absolute shadow of the team who finished the season well last year and looks like we may have signed a downgrade reserve keeper although hopefully just a one off. I dont read too much into pre season but we look absolutely miles off it
