Not to be a negative Nancy, however schniderlin In the squad makes me sick.

Richarlison with Walcott does excite me though

Honestly, the front four - on paper - should do well. Sigurdsson has zero excuses. He has a target man to feet and two inside forward/winger types to slip in.

We're one decent central midfielder away from being sorted in terms of midfield and attack, at least in terms of a starting eleven.

The defence though...

If you like, please give your definition of a 'high defensive line' (HDL) pre-match, as you please. Then we can watch the game with this in mind and have a good chat about it afterwards.

Appreciate it. There's one on Marco Silva, too, I recommend others to watch that one as well so it's better understood how he used his two defensive mids (more like 8s) and CBs to spring his attack from the outside. Otherwise, I'd watch the 3-2 Arsenal match when he managed Olympiakos to see how obessed he was with counter attacking at certain places.

In particular, I would recommend watching tactics on Pep to understand how his line plays in support of possession based football, Klopp and gegenpressing to understand the counter press and high line as a result, and Simeone to understand how he pushes his line up a bit higher than your typical counter attacking coach to condense the space in his own half when defending. He doesn't play a high line, but that's about the closest you will see to one in a counter attacking team.

But yeah, it's pretty obvious that we don't intend on high pressing or playing a high line in support of that for any duration of time. We may press high every now and then, as EVERYONE does sometimes, but you won't see it often.
I will cite this video by Tifo football as my own benchmark:

Points of note;

25 metres between the front and the back of the team.
A 'sweeper-keeper'
HDL works when the front players press so that the ball behind our defence can't be accurate.
Our defence must be skilled at laying the offside trap.
The Linos must be competent to give oppo players offside.
It would be better if our defenders were fast enough to recover if the trap or Lino fails.

Mate its a moot point until Silva gets in players in wants at the back and at DM or at least till the players can play the system he wants.

Best description of him though! I like Gana but he's the market stall knock-off version of Kante.

Sure, but last pre season match his passing was really good and surprising to many as his range and ability to get it out wide. If he can do that, he's a very effective player. Morgan makes me sick, though. Just offers nothing.
