Dunno if you ever read Ken Buckley's reports but his last makes a nice distinction between playing from the back and playing around at the back. The latter is beginning to drive the home crowd nuts. And it is actually really boring.
Which is one major reason for the lack of atmosphere at GP these days.

Does Lukaku's one-two for Barkley's goal count as an assist?

Yes.

Basically, an "assist" is credited to the las man in your team to touch the ball before you score, so long as no opponent touches it in between.

Tim Howard was credited with an "assist" for one of Lukaku's goals against the Barcodes at home last season.

:)

That is why I hate when people use "assists" as a measure of how well a fellow has played.

It can mean anything from a hoof up the pitch from Disdin being met by Rom and lashed into the net or a defence slitting pass from Eto'o putting him in the clear to score.

It is way too gimmicky to mean very much :)

Honestly, would almost rather see Kone play WITH lukaku. Think he would work well. Its quite apparent the way we play Lukaku is generally wasted. Whats the point of playing with a lone striker who run onto the ball in order to succeed if you are going to treat him as a target man and ask him to hold play up? Kone/Eto'o can do that part quite well, let Lukaku do his thing.

I will say tho, he has not looked lively lately. Needs to start playing with belief.

I would love to see Lukaku with a strike partner.

I still think the team needs to get over its defensive frailties before it can really kick on. Last season, the back four was all but impermeable and that allowed the attack to be very fluid, almost instinctive. Now, because the defence is shaky, the play going forward has become tentative, with the players afraid to take chances lest they lose possession and the defence leaks a goal as a result.

Yip.

Our current travails stems directly from the trauma of the last ten minutes against Arsenal and the next two home games against Chelsea and Palace.

Bobby has become over cautious since then.

(It's hard to disagree with him, though )
