The problem as I've said is he can't sit there if players in front of him are not pressing - Doucoure is stuck doing 2 jobs of pressing and also trying to cover the space out wide James leaves and Siggurdsson/Gomes havent the pace or defensive ability to press the midfield when Doucoure goes to cover the space out wide.

Its why you need a Godfrey or Holgate in the middle until Gbamin is fit or we dip into the January transfer market.

I agree with your assessment of the problem, but not with the solution. Rather than go back to the Silva days with 2 DMs I’d put James in the 10 role and put a wide player on the right that will help his FB out. Given the scarcity of good options available, that may also require a foray into the market, however...
