I get that we’re missing Richarlison - any team in the league would miss a player of his quality - but what I don’t get is how Richarlison not being in the team makes Allan and Doucoure lack the energy they showed in the first 5 games, or how it makes us unable to defend pretty straightforward attacks.

I agree with everyone who says we look mentally fragile but it’s madness that it always extends to new players, playing in different systems under different managers. Some proper hoodoo on our club.

If we play Sig/Gomes/Davies along with Allan & Doucs in the mid we cant carry James defensively now teams have worked us out.. bar James none of our mid are comfortable on the ball under pressure and we continually turn the ball over in dodgy areas.
We need a machine in midfield.

I just don't blame players failing on other players instinctively. You have to show me a really good reason why Allan isn't doing his job and just "Sigurdsson stinks" isn't really it.

Yeah except that’s not remotely what I said, but I doubt that matters much.

But for a concrete example, in the lead up to one of their goals, Sigurdsson literally looks at Fernandes, points at him, then runs away from him to mark (I think it was Mata, but not sure) who was already being marked by... *checks notes*... Allan

it’s hardly a shock that our two centre mids don’t look great when they’re doing 3 people’s work.

You always had a feeling these were gonna respond against us this week by the way. No way they weren’t bringing their game after the shambles they produced midweek. They’d have been itching to get back out and make amends.

Still think we can get something from this, but we need to be much, much better second half.
