That's my take on it. I thought we were the better side until the goal, just lacking that precision or luck in the final third to get the chances needed to score.

Gündogan's goal was a mixture of the sublime and luck, so I don't think there's much we could have done; the second goal, that was the sucker punch.

If we'd gone in at half-time 1-0 down, we could have stood a chance, but the second meant we were so deflated. Still, there were a fair few positives!

I thought McNeil and Garner were both real positives, with Doucouré and Dom also performing well.
I went to my annual game and pretty much agree with that Phil.
For 35 minutes we had a good game plan , everyone was focused and we looked solid. The chance for Holgate had to be taken.
I actually thought Gundogans goal was superb skill and not much you can do about it.
The 2nd was a combination of a poor header by Patterson and Iwobi failing to track back and at 2 nil it's damage limitation.
The lack of a left back is a real worry and if the DCL injury is serious we are really in the mire .
I actually thought DCL was fabulous in the 1st half.
If Doucoure had any technical ability he'd be great.
Very very nervous about the last 2 games. Without DCL we are clueless.

All the moaning in the world isnt going to put things right at this club. Success is all down to money, paying the best salaries, which attract the best players. We need " Sand People" to invest in the club to ever get anywhere near the top clubs. We can chase a few rounds in the FA Cup Lge Cup but will never win nothing until big investment arrives and 3 seasons at least to attract the right players in. Breaks my heart having watched us from the late 50"s. Now got to the point of just accepting it.

I voted for Garner he’s a tidy player who I hope will go on to do great things. I just thought today we didn’t get at them enough. Too much respect paid to them re should have roughed them up a bit they would have hated that before that semi final second leg.

Good management. Massive investment. Now one of the richest clubs in Europe. A lot better squad than us. And only going to get better because moneys not a problem.
They are spending money that many clubs in the PL spend and contrary to lots of popular opinion they are not one of the richest clubs in Europe. they are owned by an investment fund with lots of money but that is not Newcastle's money. Lots of clubs have billionaires as owners but they do not have billions to spend.

Did you miss that 1st half ? They had something like 80% possession
That’s not unusual for them… against better sides than us too.

literally no one at the club will have been factoring in a win today when working out the permutations of how to stay up, so I guess we’re no worse than expected.

We kept the score reasonabke and didn’t concede 6 or 7 which was alaays the priority if we could t get a result.

no one should beat themselves up about losing to city, we need to remember that we went and spanked Brighton 5-1 only a game ago!

Ok, that’s that match done and dusted. Was thinking that we could have got a draw, or even sneaked it , but of course , we didn’t . We got what we deserved , nothing. We can’t really compete with this sort of team . We might play in the same league as City , but we are just not in the same “ league “ as them. Player for player , they are something else. We barely scrape to something.

Anyhow , it ain’t over yet. We are in the same “league” as Wolves. Player for player , we can match them. We can beat them.
So no more nonsense from Sean Dyche . Let’s come up with a defensive plan that doesn’t include Holgate. Who’s our under 23 or under 21 left back.
Let’s keep a clean sheet . Let’s hope that our midfield get into the game , and that McNeil and Doucoure get their shooting boots on. And let’s hope that DCL has recovered from that thigh tightness. He’s got 6 days to recover.

We can beat Wolves.
Leeds utd and Leicester City are not going to go away with a whimper. We need more points.
No more Man City’s to face this season. Thank god.
And we can’t fear Wolves and Bournemouth. Would be unforgivable if we can’t beat these teams. Four points might even , just do it.
It ain’t over yet folks. Up the Toffees.

the problem when you have a deep block it limits the 50 50 challenges and it takes away from the intensity of tackling. but I can understand why dyche went like that. city could win 5 or 6 nil otherwise. they are technically miles ahead of us

We were playing nicely. That Holgate chance before they scored was anoying, should have been 1-0 from what i could see (havent seen replay yet). But if we had scored they would have come back and won. Im afraid they have too much in the tank and have very inteligent players who know how to quickly adaapt when a team effectively blocks of one avenue like we did well in the first 35 mins.
Shame arsenal rolled over today, they wont put up anything against Forest although inthough they are safe now anyway.
Its between Us, Leeds and Leicester. Unfortunately have to hope the RS won on Monday which they will.

Not just ourselves they are technically miles ahead of at least.
If we had played OK & held out for a draw etc they would have just stepped it up to go back ahead, they are that good Harlem Globetrotters of football mate - doh disappointed in Dyches tactics poor team selection in Holgate - sent off last game - so lets throw him in at left back - Gray could have done a better job etc - two cup finals left for us - maybe it was the time to rest players today - give Simms a chance rest DCL etc Mills a game etc save our better players for Wolves away - that Maupay needs binning too .... off the bench nowhere near the first team .....

Well, our goal difference is still better than Forest's, but we have lost the advantage we had over Leeds.

Quite impressed with Garner so far, careful in possession, tidy on the ball, set pieces are decent,Patterson had a pretty good game, but McNeil again was our stand out performer, couldnt really slate anyone really other than Holgate, maybe Pickford too if I’m being hyper critical not one of his best days, aah well it wasn’t really about todays game, onwards now to Wolves!!!
