Mad, this.

I hope he’s okay, he’s too old for this game but it doesn’t mean he deserves it.

Though having said that, it does have a bit of a George Costanza / Larry David feel to it: you’re going to be sacked, so fall ill and hope pity kicks in.

The respect he is getting is protecting him from the journos who have been hounding him for weeks while a deal for the new man is finalised. It’s not ruthless, but good sense not to sack a manager at this time of the season before a new one is ready to go.

I'm not really talking about today as such. They shouldn't have let him continue on this week as normal if they had a fair idea they were going to sack him before the next game.

Or keep all of this quiet and work in the background on the new manager and let Roy have until Tuesday.

But they didn’t have anyone in place before today (and still might not).
I’m not sure it’s possible keep stuff quiet and work in the background in top level football anymore. Someone always blabs.
Roy will get a very public, very sincere thank you from the club and the fans, he is loved and respected as a manager and a person, circumstances have contrived to get us to this point, it’s ugly and messy.

Wonder what our record is against teams with a new manager. I have a feeling it is grim. Similar to that of visiting strikers ending a goal drought , debut strikers scoring debut goals etc. etc. :(
