It's a pity that one of Davies, Holgate or Calvert-Lewin didn't get a game as it would be a good yardstick to judge the other players by.
I can only agree with what has already been said on here that Pennington is really the only one that looks first team ready.
Overall , I was disappointed with Dowell in that I hoped his performance stood out above the rest and it didn't. We saw flashes of what he is about and the wonderful things he can do, but, in a game at that level he needs to be dominating proceedings, be central to everything that happens as Davies would do and I didn't see that in his performance.

I agree with comment about Pennington. For Dowell it all looks too easy, his languid style reminds me coincidentally of Matt Le Tiss, perhaps he would've thrived in that era, today managers demand so much more when players haven't got the ball.

Couple of things mate.

Do you think Robinson could do a job as a wing back.? Personally I think that role is a bit much on Bainsey's legs now he's getting on a bit, and I've been advocating bringing in a specialist during the summer, such as Robertson from Hull. I haven't seen that much of Robinson. Could he fit in at LWB on a regular basis or is that a bit too much to expect at the moment?

Agree fully regarding Dowell. Said many times that his style and posture remind me very much of the great Matt Le Tissier. You can see it in his goals too. But I'm not sure that type of player fit's in well in the Premier these days and I agree he doesn't appear a Koeman type either. I think he's an enigma for the club and they haven't a clue what to do with him. His quality is unquestionable; it's there for everyone to see. But he doesn't influence games enough and you can sense that the club aren't happy about sending him out to the hurly burly of lower leagues either. Maybe sending him abroad on loan is the answer, similar to what Chelsea do with their flair players. I hope we are able to accommodate him though as his goals are the sort you need when trying to break down stubborn defences.

I think Pennington is ready for another run in the first team. He didn't disgrace himself last year when playing in a completely demotivated side. Let's see if he's upto the challenge. If not, there'll be plenty of clubs willing to take him. He'll not learn any more playing in the U23s as you say. Same applies to Galloway and Browning. I can't see us keeping more than 1 of the 3, especially as Holgate now appears to be established. It's a strange one really. Browning is probably the best natural defender and the best athlete. Galloway is probably the best footballer. And Pennington is probably the best organiser and reader of the game. If we could combine all 3 we'd be on a winner;)

I think Robinson could do a job at LWB. Has the pace to get up and down, and looks quite intelligent in his link up play. Obviously you can't really know until he's thrown in but I see no reason why not. It might even be a better position to ease him into as there's less of a defensive burden.

Both full backs were the stand outs for me last night. Really impressed.

I think you might be spot on with Dowell. He's not the sort of player who is going to benefit from a lower league loan, or at a struggling PL team. Maybe if we get into Europe they could be good games to blood him in? I really hope he does get a proper crack at the first team or else it will always be a case of what if?

Again, completely agree on Pennington. Hard to tell from games like last night whether he is PL standard, but there's only one way to find out...

I liked the look of Robinson a lot last nice, good technique, good energy and fast as hell. Did give the ball away a few times though. I like the idea of him as a wingback.

Something else to consider when assessing if players are ready for the Premier league, particularly midfielders is that prior to getting his chance Tom Davies didn't really stand out as exceptional, playing with superior players has really brought him on.
Just imagine how the likes of Walsh and Dowell would've thrived if they had Lukaku and Barkley alongside them last night.

i think feeney could develop past them all in the next year, hes making rapid progress.

If Robinson could do a job at LWB it's one off my shopping list for the summer. I'm happy that Connelly can provide the cover at LB but he doesn't have that sweet left foot you need for a WB. In fact he's right footed.

Glad to see Kenny had a good game too. Think he's froze in other games RKs turned up to.

Came from 2-1 down to beat Derby 3-2. Man City conceded late goal in 3-3 draw at Arsenal. 3 games to go - 5 points ahead and 8 goals better off.
