For a moment lets think in the realm of positivity. We can with this squad finish in the top 4, a couple of good bounces needed I grant you and some luck with injuries, but every possibility. With the dross coming to an end in their contracts at the end of the season, and CL money just imagine where that would position us in 10 months’ time. The last few years we keep telling ourselves next year even before the season starts, the difference is this year we have every reason to be optimistic with where we can finish.

On Pickford we do have to remember GK form is nearly always inconsistent. Keepers like peak years Nev or Schmeichel who were rock solid for around a decade are vanishingly rare. Most top keepers have two or three major rough periods even in their 'peak' years because it is such an unforgiving position. It is not that long ago Lloris was practically chucking them in weekly yet he looks back in pretty good shape right now. If Olsen gives us a viable alternative and that in turn helps Pickford focus then our current uderstandable fear and loathing of TRex may pass (or not).

How long does a keeper have to keep making disastrous mistakes for before its not just a 'rough patch?
