Good showing, Paul...I'd have said pretty much the same things too. Also agree there are influential elements in the mainstream media who constantly belittle Everton, so from that perspective I understand your point that Koeman represents someone "way above" what they would expect. From my perspective I'm still not majorly convinced of his managerial record, I'd have preferred someone with pedigree of winning trophies and/or regularly qualifying for Europe in a major league.

But before Ronald can show us his mettle on that front, the club need to make sure we have a few new players, and these players will require some decent bedding-in time. Next two weeks are crucial.

When it comes to center midfield we need starters. If Stones goes we need a starter to replace him. We need backups at ST and RB.

Kids aren't going to fill those positions.

Number 8. Whats interesting about Davies is when he first made the step up to the under 18's he played right back for a few games in the autumn of his first year as a scholar. We had Walsh who was majestic in there and Williams often played too, sometimes Ledson/Kenny played in there too.

However he was the captain of the under 16's the season and they obviously wanted him involved so he played right back and did so very competently. I wonder if that information has been passed on to Koeman.

It's a shame Unsworth didn't get a longer run at the back end of last season as you would have seen far more of him and I think he'd have made a big impression. He is a real Ebbrell type midfield player but with better quality on the ball. I see him being a box to box midfield player. Before that he may be moved around a little but can't imagine that will happen too much for too long.

The best way I could put it with Davies is that he ticks every box. He can pass, dribble, beat a man, tackle, intercept, head, get around the pitch, nick the ball etc. There may be lads who exceed him on some areas (Walsh for example is a far better passer with vision) but he doesn't have any obvious weaknesses. I think he will be a similar player to what we hoped McCarthy would be.

I agree wholeheartedly with this and a lot of the points you've made in this thread mate.

Personally, if I'm RK, I look at the starting eleven and try to bring in players that improve the quality of that, rather than squad players. EG, how many people are saying "bring in a backup RB for Coleman"? I'd argue that we shouldn't be bringing in backups. We should be looking at players to improve the first eleven.

Our first choice eleven:

GK: Robles
RB: Coleman
LB: Baines
CB: Jagielka
CB: Funes Mori
CM: McCarthy
CM: Barry
AM: Barkley
RW: Deulofeu
LW: Mirallas
CF: Lukaku

From that list, we MUST improve on the GK, CB, 2 CM's and maybe LW in my opinion.

The players that are dislodged then become the backups. If we aren't able to bring a player in, we use the youth players as the "backups".

No that's a fair point. I think we need a Centre back, 2 strikers and a left sided midfield player. I am not as worried as you about right back as I think Coleman will start most games and lads can fill in. I don't see buying a back up as critical, but would agree re CB, ST and LW. That on top of a central midfield player.

He reminds me of Xavi. Would be great in a high pressing team like Pep's Barca.
