For him we do.
My point being; he has had one job in the Premier League and, given the club's size and resources, he has done very well. Perhaps give him longer than a month and a few competitive games before you casually write him off as useless? Maybe the English league suits his management style?

Davies is a central midfielder (box to box) for the youth I believe, which is why he played in that position in the last game of the season when we played 4-1-4-1, with Davies and McCarthy ahead of Barry in the three in midfield, with Dowell on the right wing - a position that he'll probably come in and play a fair bit next season I believe (though I do suspect both might be loaned out at times)

I thought he was a DM like he was switched to during the game?

Id be very impressed if we got in 3 top players all under the radar this week....have to say though if hes a journo he would have written about it ......?!

I do agree, but from what he's told me is that the club is being extremely tight lipped when it comes to transfer dealings.
Which if you think about it is common sense, as if we lose someone to another club or a deal breaks down for whatever reason it lessons the fume !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since he went to roma he has been howards twin.

I think that's fair he hasn't fulfilled his potential. Koeman knows him though and he will be a 3rd/2nd choice. Would you quibble the idea that he has taken Howards position as the 2nd goalie who carries the drinks? We still need a top number 1 but that is a different discussion altogether.

In all honesty mate having watched that age group for some time I expect it to be much high than that. I've watched academy football for a long time and the age group of 18/19 year olds is as strong as anything we have produced and ranks alongside the period of the late 90's. I am not just saying that now, go back and check the youth teams thread out and you will see me discussing a range of prospects for the last couple of years. I never spoke of a player before they were 16 for obvious reasons but you will see the comments and I think they will speak for themselves.

To answer your question I expect more than that. Next season I imagine Pennington, Galloway, Garbutt, Browning, Dowell & Davies to all be involved. I appreciate some of them have stepped up already. There is an outside chance Ledson and Kenny could also get opportunities.
Going beyond next season I think Walsh will play for the first team. I also think Evans has a very good chance but you may be looking at a 2-3 year time frame for that.

In all honesty Davies was very good for the youth teams but looked no better than Williams, Ledson and Walsh (maybe behind them) and put in one of the best midfield performances we had seen from any midfielder for any side at Goodison last season. I think young players have ability but they need to be given opportunities and not have their paths blocked by what I would consider average older pro's.
Davies was also very good when he came on albeit briefly against Southampton and he again impressed me at the weekend. Not sure about the rest.

Either way it's not a question of whether they will make it but rather is it wise to begin the season with them as our first line of defense against injuries. It's a huge step up and youth level isn't much of an indicator. I played with kids who were like Messi when I was younger and none of them went on to even be pros. Barca thought Deulofeu was going to be world class and they would know better than most.

That doesn't even tackle the issue that our first 11 isn't strong enough.

what's he been right about and how do we know he was on it before it was common knowledge?

these ITK games are done. now we're just waiting for real action.

He was right about Koeman from day one, same as he was right about the timing of Martinez getting the bullet. All he is doing is passing onto me what he's hearing as a sports journo for a quality paper. He also covers the RS too, but who wants to know about them !

Yes likewise, I suppose the point I'm making mate is that we have another 3 midfield players who are as good if not better than Davies (Walsh, Ledson & Williams). Whether they are able to step up as impressively is open to question but that age group was remarkably strong. They went about 2 years unbeaten and most weeks they would hammer sides by 5-6 goals going through.

As it happens that is the key question. We do need added quality in and experience. However that is different to saying the lads we've released need replacing. We need better players in key areas though, but we will not miss Osman, Hibbert, Howard & Peinaar mate.

as somebody has said, that was purely for the youth set up. Unless you're amazing, you ain't getting anywhere near a Prem first team as an 18-year-old keeper, barring loads of injuries

True.A bit like Ruddy's 80 minute Everton career!
