Last season was down to tactics, not personnel

Yes, we could do with some depth, but we still have a strong First XI, one that is capable of beating anyone

Two bad seasons under a tactically inept manager has coloured people's vision in relation to our team

Our full strength First XI is a very good side
It really isn't but you can go back a few pages since we already had this argument today.

I know, but he's not a pauper either. So to see us basically continue the Kenwright era of doing things is... disappointing.

The club and the fans need at least one big signing that puts us on the map - even if it is a stupid one financially. By all means rein it in afterwards and look for smarter signings afterward, but not for the first.
There is no proof that we are continuing the kenwright era

To be honest mate, I'm not really arsed over a big signing

I just want the right signing in all honesty

As I've said earlier, I think we've got a very good starting XI

If we make 4-5 strong, yet not amazing, signings to compliment that Starting XI we already have, I think we'll have a very good season and will be in a much better position to make the "block buster" signing the following season

I'm relatively relaxed about the whole situation to be fair

We're going to need to be patient. Marathon not a sprint etc

It's a sign of a club still counting the pennies.
Not really, if the board pay over the top wages to the first player just to get them on board, then this inflates wages for subsequent signings. There must be players there whose signing would be taken as "intent" without breaking the bank?

Cut off point for me will be when the players we have been reportedly after, namely Witsel, Mata, Koulibaly, Carvalhoetcc either commit fully to there current clubs or more worryingly move to another club, that will clearly show that either we haven't been offering the types of deals, fees and wages that has been speculated upon in many places, or that we are unable to sell the 'project' to top international class players.

Up until those things start to happen then yeah will be rising concern (christ after more than 20 years of doing nowt that will take a huge amount of shifting from our collective psyche) vut not gonna go all panic mode

yeh well put mate.

If our 'targets' start going to other clubs that really we should be competing with on financial/quality terms (e.g. I don't mind losing out to Barca, but Stoke is a bit crap) then I'll worry.

I'd like us to get the ball rolling this week, and then I do think the others will follow. If we have two or three of our main first team additions signed by the start of the campaign, with one more plus maybe a few bonus signings (depending on outgoings) to follow before the deadline, I'd say we're in a very decent position.

Mate I totally agree with you this procrastination is disappointing.

So he may not be perfect? Maybe he is learning the ropes? There may be circumstances we aren't aware of?

Who knows why?

But I don't think he is s con artist or wasting anyone's time.

He never ever names anyone mate, but he will give you the general gist of what he hears is happening. He's very rarely wrong and he is extremely well respected in his field. So in answer to your wum, it's not the same as getting some ITK stuff from the bog cleaner at Finch Farm.

SO THERE X

Id be very impressed if we got in 3 top players all under the radar this week....have to say though if hes a journo he would have written about it ......?!

My only point on this Mikey would be that I think we have enough squad players that are in and around the first 11 but we need some really quality. I'd rather have three top class (realistically mind) signings than 5 or 6 decent ones.

The right signings follow when we've made a statement we're looking to be winners. To attract winners, you need to buy winners first.

As such, we need someone like Mata, because even if he was a flop (don't think he would be, but still), it sends the message we're bringing in players to win.

We've had decades of trying to bring in the Cahills and Campbells of this world, who were the "right" signings for our situation, but right now we need to prove we want to compete at a higher level. That's why we need that one big statement of intent - the smarter signings can come later, because the good players will suddenly want to play for Everton instead of needing to be convinced by the zeroes on the contract alone.

who knows, mate? fact is they've strengthened.

Feghouli and Tore. Both have massive attitude issues and it remains to be seen how they'll do. I do think Bilic is a good coach though so we'll see, though Tore was involved in the armed threatening of a Turkish teammate...

Moshiri isn't worth £20bn mate
I think that's the point. Moshiri doesn't have the financial clout to make a statement. To get us competing with the big boys. To finance us into the champions league. To win us trophies. Which is what was being said earlier in the window. It's now looking like that may have been a lot of hot air which brings up the question what are his intentions.
