I've seen no real suggestion we're "haggling" over wages

Most reports seem to suggest we're comfortably outbidding all the other teams

The fact we're not in Europe and haven't won anything in so long is going to make us less attractive to players

Chelsea were already a Top 4 side whem Abramovich bought them and City at least had the swish new stadium

Until we get the first big signing over the line, which we still have time to do, then it's not going to be a cake walk to sign whoever we want

If we can get Mata or Witsel in, that'll change perceptions

But Number_25 may be right and that we have to do something this season first before we start getting who we want

And even if we were haggling, is that not the right thing to do! We have said whenever city have come in for one of there players to up the price as its city, we cant have teams doing the same to us for certain players.

Because they only arrived literally that day. If they'd arrived in July, they'd have went to town on the transfer market, as seen in subsequent windows since they arrived.

Whereas Moshiri has done nothing so far. Again, that doesn't mean I'm saying he won't do anything, but he's proven nothing at this point.

The amount of zeros on the contract was all he saw. At the moment, we can't expect people to join Everton because it's Everton; we need to do the same thing.

Which is why I'm concerned. If we meant business and had a target to bid for, with this new investment you'd have expected us to go balls out to get it done and make that statement. We haven't thus far, which suggests we're not the "new Everton" we all thought we were going to be.

My concern now is we're more akin to Arsenal - not spending big, looking at infrastructure or whatever (new stadium etc.) rather than signings and content to sit in mid-table until that's done - rather than a City/Chelsea 'big player, intent to win trophies' club.

I know, but he's not a pauper either. So to see us basically continue the Kenwright era of doing things is... disappointing.

The club and the fans need at least one big signing that puts us on the map - even if it is a stupid one financially. By all means rein it in afterwards and look for smarter signings afterward, but not for the first.

Everyone will have different cut off points. For me, it's going to be 22nd July; the third week of July starting. Might seem arbitrary, but my success criteria for this window was to have two or three done early that were very significant transfers, followed by the momentum taking us to deadline day if necessary to bring in two or three more. To be at zero at this point of the window is, for me, alarming, as my personal view is we'll need two or three in withing the next five days or so to be on track with what I hoped for Everton this window.

Cut off point for me will be when the players we have been reportedly after, namely Witsel, Mata, Koulibaly, Carvalhoetcc either commit fully to there current clubs or more worryingly move to another club, that will clearly show that either we haven't been offering the types of deals, fees and wages that has been speculated upon in many places, or that we are unable to sell the 'project' to top international class players.

Up until those things start to happen then yeah will be rising concern (christ after more than 20 years of doing nowt that will take a huge amount of shifting from our collective psyche) vut not gonna go all panic mode

It is, but it does need a bit of quality adding in.

In an ideal world where we weren't losing Stones, all we'd probably need to factor in would be a box-to-box CM with a bit more prowess going forward than our current options, a goalkeeper and a quality playmaker.

I believe we'll get all three of those in, plus a CB when Stones goes.
