Everton Transfer Thread 2016

I just can't see the Schmeichel thing happening.

I'm not saying we won't be interested - of course we probably are, he's ace, but from the player's POV it would be a baffling move at this stage, IMO.

Hes on £35k isnt he + probably knows they wont do much this season....i cant say hes a good enough keeper for us either if were talking top notch.

Well I suppose that's down to opinion. I was really not a fan of Howard at the end mate, I thought he was a complete liability and Stekelenberg did ok in goal for Southampton. The lad has 50 odd caps for Holland so I am going to stand behind that judgement that he is more reliable than Howard of last season.

Since he went to roma he has been howards twin.

Right so you're completely ignoring the fact it's taking them (an apparent huge club) the same length of time to sign a player as us and for some reason we're classed as slow and useless re: transfers. Point to prove or not, time is time.

Maybe Everton is the common denominator

Would it surprise you to know that we're as ponderous at shipping players out as we are getting them in?

Davies and Dowell (both attacking mids) will be coming into the first team fold this year I reckon.

Davies is a DM for youth team isnt he and dowell would be behind barkley....id say also kenny and connolly plus holgate and galloway too...

not replacing GK CM LW or CF backup or first choices.

Didnt man city get bought just around the time they got robinho? Also FDB arguably has a better record than ronald in holland and bar southampton his stints abroad have been awful.

And Feyenoord mate ;) . They got bought out that summer and Robinho was the last signing on deadline day. Go and have a look at who they bought for the rest of the summer though. Sometimes time confuses people's ideas of what people do and at what speed.

As you know FDB was always my favourite and number 1 choice. I felt he fitted perfectly and could have had a massive impact on the club. He not as far down the road as Koeman and all I can hope is that Koeman has got his failures out of the way while De Boer may have some of that to come. I don't know how else I can put it though, but in a world where anyone but your first choice is a bad manager I would be unhappy. I think the world is more nuanced than that though. I will give Koeman time and I think I believe in what Moshiri's doing more than probably yourself and a fair amount of Evertonians.

I maintain Koeman is a decent manager and deserves a bit of time though. Everything I have seen so far has been positive and he started a game on Saturday with 3 teenagers and a 20 year old starting the game in it!

Davies is a central midfielder (box to box) for the youth I believe, which is why he played in that position in the last game of the season when we played 4-1-4-1, with Davies and McCarthy ahead of Barry in the three in midfield, with Dowell on the right wing - a position that he'll probably come in and play a fair bit next season I believe (though I do suspect both might be loaned out at times)

In all honesty mate having watched that age group for some time I expect it to be much high than that. I've watched academy football for a long time and the age group of 18/19 year olds is as strong as anything we have produced and ranks alongside the period of the late 90's. I am not just saying that now, go back and check the youth teams thread out and you will see me discussing a range of prospects for the last couple of years. I never spoke of a player before they were 16 for obvious reasons but you will see the comments and I think they will speak for themselves.

To answer your question I expect more than that. Next season I imagine Pennington, Galloway, Garbutt, Browning, Dowell & Davies to all be involved. I appreciate some of them have stepped up already. There is an outside chance Ledson and Kenny could also get opportunities.
Going beyond next season I think Walsh will play for the first team. I also think Evans has a very good chance but you may be looking at a 2-3 year time frame for that.

In all honesty Davies was very good for the youth teams but looked no better than Williams, Ledson and Walsh (maybe behind them) and put in one of the best midfield performances we had seen from any midfielder for any side at Goodison last season. I think young players have ability but they need to be given opportunities and not have their paths blocked by what I would consider average older pro's.

Isnt davies a DM not a attacking midfielder?
