Everton Transfer Thread 2016

It's a waste of time trying to reason with these people - no matter what evidence is given, we're "same old Everton", "not spending anything", "weakened squad", "Man City have signed x and y" blah blah blah, they just don't get it. My ignore list is about to get a whole lot bigger, sick and tired of reading the same old drivel....

Yeah, no solid links anywhere really, though schmeichel seems to keep popping up in the media.

I just can't see the Schmeichel thing happening.

I'm not saying we won't be interested - of course we probably are, he's ace, but from the player's POV it would be a baffling move at this stage, IMO.

Mate all the keepers (and, to be honest, players in general) you seem to think we should be going for are mostly the signings I'd go for on FM and never, ever in real life.

I don't understand what this means? Are you saying they're too good or too bad?

I think you misunderstand our concerns, here it is again: we have a weaker squad now and our rivals have already strengthened: they have more time to bed in. We've got some obvious catching up to do.

That's the crux of the argument, mate.

I posted this earlier: these players aren't proven. One game against a NEA relegated Norwich doesn't count.

Osman, Hibbo, Pienaar and Howard have over a thousand games between them. We can't automatically expect these youngsters will be as good as them.

Im fine with the kids playing BUT there should be top class players in the first eleven and backup should be top notch kids looking to take their positions...

Bar right back and defensive midfield the kids dont play in positions we need to improve though.

I have seen a lot of this recently. If the kids are good enough why go and spend money on a player? Isn't that just spending for the sake of spending?

The 4 senior players we have lost, of the outfield players probably played less than 10 games last season and everyone wanted Howard gone. Howard has been replaced with a better option already. Of the 3 outfield players we have mentioned half a dozen young lads who should be able to cover their contribution and be an improvement on them.

That will leave us to targeting a higher quality of player. I think we are doing this as yet unsuccessfully. I am very relaxed about this and will judge on by the end of August. We will spend money.

Imo howard hasnt been replaced with a better option.

Davies and Dowell (both attacking mids) will be coming into the first team fold this year I reckon.

I can't see it either.

He's 29 I think, sticking with Leicester could be the only opportunity he gets to play the champions league at this point.

How many of those kids do you expect to make it. 1 maybe 2 at most. How many have made it from our academy in the last 20 years?

To simply throw them in and expect them to be our cover when injuries hit is unfair to them and could relegate us. Be sensible.

That's even assuming our first 11 is strong enough which it isn't even close to challenge for the top 6.

In all honesty mate having watched that age group for some time I expect it to be much high than that. I've watched academy football for a long time and the age group of 18/19 year olds is as strong as anything we have produced and ranks alongside the period of the late 90's. I am not just saying that now, go back and check the youth teams thread out and you will see me discussing a range of prospects for the last couple of years. I never spoke of a player before they were 16 for obvious reasons but you will see the comments and I think they will speak for themselves.

To answer your question I expect more than that. Next season I imagine Pennington, Galloway, Garbutt, Browning, Dowell & Davies to all be involved. I appreciate some of them have stepped up already. There is an outside chance Ledson and Kenny could also get opportunities.
Going beyond next season I think Walsh will play for the first team. I also think Evans has a very good chance but you may be looking at a 2-3 year time frame for that.

In all honesty Davies was very good for the youth teams but looked no better than Williams, Ledson and Walsh (maybe behind them) and put in one of the best midfield performances we had seen from any midfielder for any side at Goodison last season. I think young players have ability but they need to be given opportunities and not have their paths blocked by what I would consider average older pro's.

Is it really hysterical to be shocked that we have not made a single signing and in fact have made 2 arguably negative moves with skekelenburg and gibson?

All of this "he needs time to assess the players"is hogwash and poppycock!!!

Any fool knows we need to make at least 5 big signings and we should have already made at least one....that being a keeper.

If we dont get at least 3 in this week then it will be guillotine time.

What does this even mean? Everton FC will vanish? Goodison Park will come crumbling down? Or do you just mean a bunch of grownups will complain more on an internet forum?

Well I suppose that's down to opinion. I was really not a fan of Howard at the end mate, I thought he was a complete liability and Stekelenberg did ok in goal for Southampton. The lad has 50 odd caps for Holland so I am going to stand behind that judgement that he is more reliable than Howard of last season.

Some really rate him here and others like me think hes awful....certainly i dont think anyone is amazed we got him.
I don't think he's awful. A journey man perfectly sums him up however I do think he will get the best out of Stones. Unfortunately it doesn't look like he will have the chance.

I remember the interview well (I didn't know it was you at the time!) and I would say what you are saying is an understatement. They were rude in how they almost sniggered at you for suggesting it. They didn't debate it, they just flat our told you that Koeman "would want to go to a big big club". What annoys me with that type in the media is that there will never be an apology or holding their hands up that they got it wrong subsequently.

Koeman is a massive capture on a number of levels. As a name in football I think he's probably the most successful we have ever had associated with ourselves. As a manager he has won numerous trophies in lots of different countries. More importantly he was managing a side in the top 6 of the premier league and left them. People have to think of that, he deems being at a club that are 6th and have been in the top 8 for the past 3 seasons as not able to match his ambitions. What do people think he wants to do with us if that's the case?

The Old adage of Rome wasn't built in a day is a cliché that thrown around but it is very important here. Go and see Manchester City's first transfer window and the players they signed, contrary to belief they didn't just go and buy world class players straight away (it was Robinho on the last day of the window). There has to be a bit of realism of the pace things can move at.

More than ever there is an insatiable desire for instant gratification. It is not helpful to the club and more importantly it won't make you happy. There will always be someone bigger, better and more expensive out there that we can buy. That's the paradox of life you always want more. However people should try to look at things by taking a step back. We are half way through July, negotiating deals with a very talented squad.

Didnt man city get bought just around the time they got robinho? Also FDB arguably has a better record than ronald in holland and bar southampton his stints abroad have been awful.
